The methods are flawed ("oh I'll just adjust Liverpool's penalties against penalty area touches" etc) but the conclusion Oliver's decisions show bias and he has motive is clear enough and this "big data analysis" certainly doesn't refute it.

Oliver is a cunt.
Oliver and a few others assistants worked for UAE. They flew there with family and had a jolly old time, on the plane was also City's director. They got paid around 30k for 1 game, add the trip itslelf, got the family there with them & all other expenses...it was way more in the end. Considering they make around 1k per game in the PL, 30k & all expenses paid holiday, is a shit load of money.
It's clear the FA was shocked as well, as they banned all refs for ever doing this again, so why is this cunt allowed to ref City or anyone fighting City for the title?
In any other job on earth that is at the very least a conflict of interest and he gets fired.

variation so I accept that some people will be either side of the line in a normal distribution which although annoying does not suggest there is a motive against you. Hence the canon stats article which essentially concluded that how arsenal had been reffed, at least when he did the analysis, did not hit the statistically significant threshold so how Arsenal had been treated did not yet fall outside what could be expected.

My wider point was the person doing the analysis went in with the view I want to prove Liverpool have been disadvantaged more then other clubs which makes me less confident in it's output and I don't fully get the expected penalty calculation aspect.

I feel that using "must win" in situations that literally aren't must-win devalues the expression a bit. The whole advantage of being three points ahead of someone with one less game played is that you're going to keep being three points ahead of them even if you lose.

Klaus my point is whatever the result it’s not really ‘must win’ but we should being going into the game with the mind set that it’s ‘must win’. City could be a point behind us.

In theory the only ‘must win’ game is the one you have to win in order for the other team not to win the title mathematically.

Also, great to have a cushion v Chelsea regardless but much better going to Stamford Bridge 6 points ahead to minimise any hope they may have if they were 3 or 4 points behind.

QuincyAbeyie I think we are talking about semantics. It’s really, really important game which if we win will be HUGE = must win.

When is a game not must win? In a league that is so tight and if you’re going for the title it can’t be 2-3 games that are ‘must win’. Does that mean you are happy with a bunch of draws ?

Yeah but we already went through this when we failed to win against Sunderland and our season was prematurely ended.

A must win means anything other than a win equals objective failed. Obviously, that is incorrect because if we don't win, we are still top and can still win the league. So it's not a must win.

Must wins exist in cup competitions where anything other than a win equals elimination. In the league, this just isn't the case until the final few rounds of the season.

Sorry, but this isn't really true. You could be well out of the title race long before the final few rounds because you did not win enough 'must win' games earlier. (see last season)

It is if the objective is to win every match we go into. The final objective is to win the title but there is an objective for each and every game, and they are to win, and in some games, not lose.

Btw Arteta messed up against Liverpool by setting us up defensively. Biggest lost points the year, even more than the Sunderland game
