Sorry, but this isn't really true. You could be well out of the title race long before the final few rounds because you did not win enough 'must win' games earlier. (see last season)

As the league is not definitive until the end in reality we can’t really calculate what is a must win and what isn’t but as football fans of this club for this long and being football fans in general we know when there is a game we have to win when we take into the timing, context, circumstances, what our rivals have or haven’t done etc. You can usually smell it. When City and Liverpool get 97 and 99 points effectively then pretty much every game is must win in the prem imo.

There is also the ‘sliding doors’ effect. Had we beaten West Ham in Dec 2023 we would have been champions. Going into that game you could argue it wasn’t a ‘must-win’ as it was only Dec but it clearly was as well as Villa at home in spring.

Truly must win we will only know in hindsight.

However , Spurs at home is a fucking important game and we better fucking win. Thats it. @daredevil Whether you think that is must win or not it’s immaterial.

Burnwinter the thing is, it's nice that are looking like that aren't in the running but unfortunately other teams are positioned to take advantage at the moment.. City and Chelsea are where it's at and we need to open up or at the very least not allow the gap to shrink.

daredevil A must win means anything other than a win equals objective failed. Obviously, that is incorrect because if we don't win, we are still top and can still win the league. So it's not a must win.

It is if the objective is to win every match we go into. The final objective is to win the title but there is an objective for each and every game, and they are to win, and in some games, not lose.

Being serious, what our season really needs is for us to reintegrate these players returning from injury, especially Ødegaard, Gyökeres and later Havertz, without picking up yet more knocks.

If we can have a fairly full squad and still be leading the league by around Christmas we'll be in great shape. It's a defining challenge for Arteta: can he stop breaking his players?

201 days since Isak scored a Premier League goal apparently. Havertz, for reference, who has been injured nearly the whole year, last scored on February 2nd which is 293 days ago.

Burnwinter totally agree with you about he's come up short everytime with managing a team over the full season. He doesn't appear to have learnt and even the talk of getting people back early or by game x I just think she they really ready. Don't rush them in for one game try to use the rest of the squad you spent big money building to allow them time.

If we drop points in the next series of fixtures because of the gap the balance will shift very quickly and we'll not care as much about what happened to Liverpool for example.

They started pretty well to be honest and looked like it was a matter of time before the scored. Forest scored with their first chance then heads dropped. They scored again a couple mins later but wrongfully ruled out for handball. Then another goal right after half time and another late on.

It's like they just have no confidence at the moment and with VvD doing his best Mustafi expression by pointing and playing blame game it must be a shitty place to be at the moment.

Some of the senior players already checked out, squad is lopsided, the miracle signings have been crap or injured, and Slot lacks the charisma, the plan and the authority to fix any of it.

The players must look at the squad's defensive ranks and laugh.

Could even fall behind Everton temporarily if Everton pull off a surprise win at Old Trafford.

Qwiss Can't be easy to sit in that dressing room and realise that Wirtz and Isak earn more than you do while they perform like academy players. At least Salah earned his payday.
