Qwiss I was told winning minor trophies sets you up for future success in other competitions?
Fair question, and I get that you don't want the League Cup. I think probably what anyone said (and I know I'm one of them) is that when a team have been close and on the cusp of winning for years but can't quite get over the line that winning a cup final could be a good shot in the arm to help propel them towards more winning. It's been a starting point for other teams who have then won the bigger things. At the very least, winning it wouldn't be a bad thing and shouldn't mean you can't win anything else.
I'm not sure anyone said winning a minor cup should propel a team from 17th to winning. I think the reason they are 16th has more to do with them finishing 17th last season and that just being the quality of squad they have more than it being caused by winning a minor cup.
