Claudius And our crosses and cut backs turn into corners.
Many of our corners also come from corners conceded from defending corners. We'll get a run or two or three, sometimes more, in a row as teams struggle to clear their lines. I've no doubt we're trying to attack, we'd agree there, but I suspect we'd disagree on how effective or incisive that attacking is. Horseshoeing it around the pitch until Madueke (unfairly picking on him) can't beat a first man does not an attacking team make.
I don't know that your second point bears out the eye test, nor that it would stand up to stats. It's no different from last season, and historically we haven't been in the top 2 or 3 in the league for possession at all in recent years. I suspect any more recent trend will reflect a less stable defence couple with a midfield that hasn't been in the best of form. Not knocking anyone, but there just hasn't been as stable a base recently (over a run of games, not individually) as there was earlier in the season and I suspect that's what gives rise as much to the change in approach - we're not giving it away, we're just not as secure. And these games include the likes of Liverpool at home, Forest away, United at home, all fairly adverse results and none of which would be considered the norm, so any aim of relinquishing possession for a better pay off isn't bearing fruit in these games.
