We've played just under one full game with arguably our strongest starting team in pre season, and when we did, we looked pretty good. I'm certainly not going to judge us on those performances.

I only caught the highlights of the Bilbao game but I thought there were some pretty clearly new patterns being tried out against Villarreal, particularly before we conceded and reverted to type a bit. Merino went out super wide to receive and looked to play it behind for Martinelli, who went up front alongside Gyokeres a couple of times. I'm hoping that as they bed in we'll see more enjoyable footie this season.

This is what we hope will happen. Gyokeres being up top creating space on the wings, and the defenders cannot solely focus on Saka. This makes both wings more dangerous, and then we still have VG in the middle to put away chances created by the wings or the overlapping fullbacks. Or even a quick ball up from Zubi or Ode (or hell, even Rice). It might take time to get just right, but the signs (and the pieces) are there to come up with multiple different styles of play depending on what the game needs. I do think this will be a tighter game because its the first game of the season, and both teams will be looking not to concede. That said, i think we have plenty of options to be able to do damage.

This fixture always worries me due to weird things happening at Old Trafford. On paper, we should dominate their midfield so I'm hopeful we get on the front foot from the start and dominate the first 15-20 minutes. My head says a 1-0 or 2-1 nail biter but my heart says 3-0 Arsenal with 2 Gyokeres goals to launch the narratives on Arsenal finally finding their striker.

Gyokeres score last week. So its 2 this week followed by a hat trick against Leeds. Then it'll crescendo with him doing an Arshavin and scoring 4 goals at Anfield.

I feel if they are going to be strict with holding on corners and such then we'll be big beneficiaries. We got away with a lot of physical shit because we put the PGMOL on notice a few seasons back when we sent them videos of Newcastle and Aston Villa and asked for clarification of the rules and they said everything that was done to us was fine and then we went ham on these fuckers and they couldn't do a damn thing to stop us. Now they say they'll enforce the rules that have been on the books for a while. Well good, that's all we asked you to do a couple years ago, instead you told us to do the same thing. I feel they've been fair to us when it comes to physical play on set pieces. If they continue to be fair we'll benefit a great deal.

It's Old Trafford first day of the season, the task for our players will be to settle into a long season in a focused, controlled way, develop their relationships and dismiss any anxieties. With any luck we'll have a bit of fun, entertain the travelling fans and shake up United.

Old Trafford being tough to play at is such a myth. These clowns lost 9 home games in the league last season. Nine! They haven't improved their goalkeeper, defence or midfield at all since then. Instead they blew the money on another kid up front, backed up by Premier League's two biggest xG overperformers.

Klaus it's been tough for Arsenal because something about the way we play seems to be very good for them. Absolutely other teams have run them over but not often us that's a problem we need to fix. If your want to win the title and it's hard you win these matches.
