We have no idea really. It does tend to be the case there's a sane reason why our deals happen quickly or drag on. Madueke is reclassified as homegrown, willing to come as backup and reported to be on sane wages ... probably we viewed him as a bargain.

I think everyone has to realize that the club's hierarchy (Arteta and Berta) have a much different opinion of Madueke than the majority of this board. Not saying they are right or wrong but they viewed him as a much higher priority than any of us probably do and only time will tell if they are right or not. Personally, I am going to withhold judgment until I see him get a serious sample size of playing time on the carpet. I'm also confident we will get Eze in - there's just too much noise behind the scenes from both the player's camp and our ITKs. I absolutely love the player so I hope my optimism is well placed.

Just looking at his profile the player who is most similar might be Raphinha, and Arteta was obsessed with trying to sign him when he was at Leeds. I think it might be that easy: he saw someone with similar attributes, heard that Chelsea might get rid since they've signed a lot of players this summer, and went "Not again, he's mine!"

Based on how we've been doing business I think it's likely, as we've cast our "the player only wants Arsenal" spell.

Anyone who has watched Arsenal at all over the last two seasons know LW is key but the people who matter and make the decisions don't seem to agree.

TambourineMan I think we have to give them the benefit of a doubt right now and see what happens, considering the excellent window we've had so far. My feeling is that Eze is gonna get done because we want him and Palace have to sell him.

We've probably told him to be patient because we need to ship some fringe players first. If the buying clubs know that we have too many players to register we're not going to get anything for the spares. Think we're ideally looking to move on Jesus and Trossard from the forward line, but we might be open to good offers for Martinelli too. Personally I hope we're keeping him though.

How good do we all think Eze is? Peak Erikson challenge for top 4 player. Or peak worldie win the prem and the CL kinda guy?

Speedster Can't lie, I think he's top class but inconsistent. We're probably banking on him to improve a little bit in order to be a starter, but I suspect he will level up in a better team.

I had a look at what the Palace fans say about him and they think he's shown a lot more consistency over the last 12 months than he used to.

Speedster the former. Good player coming in to fix a neglected part of the squad so could have an outsized impact but we’re not signing peak Hazard here.

And unlike Gyokeres, he’s not exploded in recent seasons - it’s just steady improvements which should hopefully continue

Buying him as an understudy made complete sense to me. It was the urgency when the guy wasn't even going to be available for pre-season and we could have got him later in the window.

I hope that it was such a cheap deal in terms of total payments package and payments schedule that there was nothing to lose by signing him earlier.

He’s entering his prime too. Peaking physically and his play will continue to mature.

He’s a fine player.

The consistency doesn't sweat me a whole lot.

He puts in a shift, and has wild on ball talent. The inconsistency - as far as I can tell - is more a byproduct of being an attacking player on a mid (at best) table team. He just doesn't get the ball a lot, plus mid league teams often play through wide areas, and so variance can disrupt his impact (goals/assists).

Plus, I'll take a touch of inconsistency if it comes alongside some swag. I love my boy Martinelli but his game has become boring and less impactful.

I don't think it was urgency. I think it was facility. Easy deals happen early, hard deals happen later. Doesn't mean they're less important.

Take the pointless and wasteful "urgency" of the Madueke transfer. It's the old billiards game …

Fabricate an "Arsenal fact", A, that if true would imply Arsenal is badly run.
Speculate about A for long enough that it seems to you and others that A is true.
Complain among yourselves the received truth of A proves Arsenal is badly run.

Feels like things will be quiet until the last few days of the window when we will sell 2-3 players and try to get Eze in then.
