MistaT Do you think we'll see our left back's role adapted to accommodate Eze coming narrow?

While in the early build-up Eze may stay wide with Calafiori/MLS inverting into midfield, I think once we force the teams into a deep block, Eze will come more central and even interchange positions with Rice at times, which will leave more space for Calafiori to exploit out wide.

The prospect of Eze, Calafiori/MLS and Rice combining on the left like we're used with Saka, Timber/White and Odegaard doing it on the right already makes me feel like the team is so much better balanced. Add Gyökeres to both equations and hopefully the outcome will result in loads of scoring chances for us.

Or Arteta may instruct Eze to hug the touchline in a classic Haramball™ fashion. We'll see.

MistaT I think we should adjust Rices role if Eze is on the left wing. Otherwise they'll be on top of each other. More so when Cala plays than MLS because MLS slides into Decs midfield role when he's in there. I do think Eze and Calafiori together may require a bit more from the midfield to cover the left back area though. At least until they find the balance. I quite like the idea of Rice being slightly more conservative and allowing Odegaard get involved in the attack more anyway but with Eze who'll get on the ball more than Martinelli it makes even more sense.

Qwiss the best thing about Eze is that gives us the option of playing Rice as number 6 if Zubi is ever out (and Eze taking over as number 8)

I’ve enjoyed Rice’s impact on our team, but I don’t think it is based on him playing as an 8. He’s quite static in that role as we copied, and Eze seems a much better fit. I also like Eze as an 8 opposite Odegaard because he doesn’t “need” the ball. He’s a magician who makes the most of moments, and we can still primarily control games via Odegaard (and Zubi).

But yeah, I do worry about our shape with MLS at LB, Rice alongside Zubi, and Eze ahead. Potential to be very narrow, but perhaps Ode/Eze can thrive in such an approach.

Exciting times ahead.

Qwiss hmm I've always thought it was 12 without necessarily knowing where I saw it. I did a quick search and media do seem to quote 12 today as well. That being the case I don't imagine he'd be involved tomorrow then, guess focus getting him in for Liverpool?

My guess is that he will not be on the bench for tomorrow. And that he will most likely start on the bench v. Liverpool.

MistaT arteta will never start with 2 creative 8s. he might do it on very rare occasions when we're chasing a game, but even then he's shown that he's rarely willing to abandon our basic shape even when we desperately need a goal. I don't think rice or ode gets bumped or shifted. rice will probably play just play a slightly deeper role and pick his forward runs for selectively, while eze drifts into the left side pockets
