RowJimmy I think that would leave us even more r/l unbalanced.
Signing an attacking midfielder to play wing makes you narrower. It's something Wenger often used to do in his 4-4-2 / 4-3-3 selections, we very often had players like Rosicky, Özil etc nominally as wingers and would get annoyed by our relative lack of width and mobility and our reliance on the overlap.
We've played a fair bit with Trossard in this role, and it does work, though Trossard is notably more two-footed than Eze. But if we had planned to play Eze opposite Saka, we'd have had two highly technical guys who relentlessly cut inside over the ball, and we'd have therefore been inviting narrow, compact and congested defensive blocks. There's a reason Martinelli faithfully makes all those "dead end runs" the ungrateful scamps of our fanbase hate him for.
So where we were interested in Eze, I have my doubts LW was ever the main plan. As Wenger used to plead, "he can play there" ... doesn't mean he should though. It's not as if Eze got his 8+8 GA for Palace last season as the kind of role-player Martinelli has been for us.
I also don't believe Madueke has been signed as LW for what it's worth. Madueke is here as a versatile RW, meanwhile Nwaneri's contract has cut the interest in Eze who would be a versatile 8.
