Don Pacifico If we had taken a punt on a £30m player I could have lived with it but we have signed him for like £60m and with his age we are stuck with him unless we take a massive loss on this deal. From my limited viewing I could see this guy wasn't up to scratch so it makes me worry why our club felt otherwise considering they'll know a hell of a lot more than a random guy on a forum like me!

Thing with Gyokeres is I think he could have gone to Italy and done really well, he has no elite physical trait about him and generally his movement isn't great and nor is his touch. Playing for a mid table club on the counter he'd probably do a lot better but when you are up against deep blocks you need something about you.

I agree Merino should have come on, Jesus came on and looked equally as terrible in his little cameo. With Merino he can look bad but you also know he has really clever movement and a knack of being in the right place to score.

JazzG he cost half an Isak. Significantly less than Ekitike and Sesko. And as much as Solanke. He is playing like the 2nd tier striker we paid for. Thankfully, the whole team has stepped up around him with goals and assists.

The fact we weren't strongly linked to him until Berta came in makes me think it was an opportunistic signing. The way Arteta speaks about his conversation with Gyokeres before the transfer happened, my sense is that Gyokeres wasn't his preference but that he believed he could mould Gyokeres to work effectively in our system. That doesn't really seem to have been the case so far.

We bought White for 50m then replaced him with Timber for 35m so I don’t see why we can’t just drop Gyokeres who we got for £55m and get a better option. That’s if we are wanting to compete with City and the likes.

Claudius True when you look at it like that but I don't think he is worth the _£62m we paid for him, this is a guy you take a £40m punt at best. I feel like Berta was the driving force behind this and rightfully questions should be asked, from what we have read the scouting team were not sold on him and they have been proven right.

Though Ekitike cost ~ £20m more but to me looks a much better player and younger as well. There is definitely something about him. Potential to be one of the elite strikers but he has been injured a lot, don't know if that is just one off or some underlying problems. What really baffles me is we didn't seem interested at all in him. I do think an earlier move in the window and we can get that done around £75m. Frankfurt took advantage of bidding war with Liverpool and drove the price up

yeah pretty much the only striker that is performing well above his cost (whatever his sign-on fee was) is Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Jury's out for me that Timber is better than White.

Timber is a better defender but White is better on the ball and going forward.

Wow. I think that debate is well and truly over. For me Timber is one of our best players this season, up there with Gabriel and Rice.

Timber is great - but I thought White was great too. So it's no slight on the former.

Given how much we see the ball in the final third - White is way better at early passes through the lines, interplay, overlaps, crosses etc. It's no surprise that the RHS isn't quite as co-ordinated as it once was since White broke down.

Timber allows me to sleep well at night knowing he will lock everyone and everything down.

Personally, I'd rotate them based on the opposition.

daredevil fair but we’re then over complicating our defence to fix our attack. We need more from our front six going forward, not weaken our back line as a compromise.

My post wasn’t a slight on White, he is definitely someone I’d rotate with Timber. Point being when it comes to full backs we have an abundance of money to spend on 2 players for one spot (same goes for Cala and Hincapie on the other side) but when it comes to strikers / attackers we suddenly don’t have the same level of resources and have to settle.

His non-involvement in the game yesterday was the biggest disappointment. It's entirely possible that he's pretty crap all season and has a really good season next year. Better players than him have had this trajectory. But I'm not sure we should/can wait that long and whether that's likely at all.

I'm betting on a better second season but I struggle to think how much better he can get given how poor he is. Havertz was equally painful in his first half a season but a change in position was the catalyst to improved performances. Gyokeres is already playing in his best position.
