Looks a complete and utter dud, just as I expected in the summer but all season our fans have made excuses for him. Supposedly a Berta signing, Berta did a great job and you won't get them all right but this one looks like a serious mistake.

Merino up front is someone who can look lost but still give him a chance and more often than not he'll finish it off.

JazzG in all fairness, we needed to sign someone (anyone) last summer. I had my misgivings about him as a player but I understand the logic. Whether we could have got someone better in is up for debate however.

In matches like today, where the system isn't working, I really believe you need as many players in the front line with what Wenger called 'individual potential' in order to break through - Gyokeres is pretty limited on that front and is primarily reliant on the service from others, which he didn't get yesterday. With hindsight, Merino and Eze coming on would have been a good combo I think (not that that's perfect either).

Sicario2 I was kicking him when the man was was up as well! I'm not saying anything to prove a point but I had a few people on here go after me for saying it at the time. I want him to prove me wrong and do well but this guy has been even worse than I thought. Against Liverpool I can forgive a bad performance but even against lesser sides he looks useless.

We are trying to win a title, we have not got space for passengers.

DiabyKungFu I think he's technically quite good, but he's prone to bobbly touches and ungainly flailing, especially in the box. You just forget.

I love Kai and I'm excited for him to come back and challenge Gyökeres, ideally supplanting him and forcing the latter to up his game. But the idea that he's ever been an ideal CF for us is fanciful at best, and the idea that probably you and many others haven't trashed him for almost his entire time here is even more ridiculous. I'm an OG Kai defender. I love him as a player, but you're just using him to get your kicks in on Viktor.

For what it's worth, I definitely have never "trashed" him. I think I've consistently taken a bit of a middle road with my view on him. I view him in a similar way that I view someone like Alex Caruso in the NBA, for example. He's a useful role player for a good team. People claiming he's great and people claiming he's shit are equally baffling to me.

Mikel is trying to play Gyökeres (and Jesus) into form, but he can't be doing that in the Premier League anymore. Merino is the best option in most situations, he needs to start until Havertz comes back. Vik needs to figure out how to make an impact as a sub before we make him our default starter.

Mirth His movement in the box is a big problem with him. If he's only going to have 5-10 touches per game then at least he has to Pippo Inzaghi it up in the box.

I thought Gyokeres would be a hit. He clearly has an excellent shot on him but thus far he’s not been able to create clear cut chances for a number of reasons. Time to admit it’s not currently working out and to sideline him. I’m worried though that Arteta may be stubborn about this.

Don Pacifico more or less in your position. Signing is fine. Not outrageous money for a striker, but we should accept that this is a very limited player.

Don Pacifico If we had taken a punt on a £30m player I could have lived with it but we have signed him for like £60m and with his age we are stuck with him unless we take a massive loss on this deal. From my limited viewing I could see this guy wasn't up to scratch so it makes me worry why our club felt otherwise considering they'll know a hell of a lot more than a random guy on a forum like me!

Thing with Gyokeres is I think he could have gone to Italy and done really well, he has no elite physical trait about him and generally his movement isn't great and nor is his touch. Playing for a mid table club on the counter he'd probably do a lot better but when you are up against deep blocks you need something about you.

I agree Merino should have come on, Jesus came on and looked equally as terrible in his little cameo. With Merino he can look bad but you also know he has really clever movement and a knack of being in the right place to score.
