In past games it was clear he wasn't doing as much dirty work as Havertz would (have). Today, a full shift, and a great goal. I think we also saw his ability to create for himself and others, and that he's better understanding the team shape (wide pass to Eze, and how he built the chance with Madueke for his shot off the post).

Big Willie Have to remember that one was a tap-in though and the other was a penalty, and the third was bad defending, and then he missed an open goal at 0-0 vs Leeds, so it's more like -1 goals. Gonna have to score a (non-penalty) brace against City to get into the positives, and even then it'll only count if they don't start any bad players.

jokes aside i saw plenty of positives yesterday. it took a while for him to get involved, but that was a reflection of how the team was moving the ball. what's becoming clear is that whenever he's fed in the right areas, he makes things happen.

Was 40% watching the first half and 60% trying to get my toddler fed breakfast this morning. My impression, and someone correct me if I’m wrong, was madueke was really dominating the run of play down his side and it was tough for us to get gyokeres adequately serviced?

Xcdude24 yep. everything went down the right in the first half. gyokeres tried drifting over there to get on the end of things but we didn't really find him in good positions. there was more activity down the left in the 2nd half, with eze and gyokeres getting on the ball a bit more.

Really starting to look like he’s getting there physically now. Impressed by his game yesterday. Superb player, knows what to do, is powerful and relentless. Has an almighty shot on him too.

Imagine thinking having signed the likes of Timber, Rice, Calafiori, Zubimendi, Raya, and the likes, that Arteta would miss with the Gyokeres signing. I’m mean coooo coooo

That shot off the post just about knocked the goal down. Gyökeres looks comical and terrifying at once when he charges along a conic section like he did in the run-up to that shot, you can see how much of that vast upper body mass he's having to tilt towards the earth in order to manage the turn.

Think he's finally getting into top shape. Looking more comfortable, better calibrated and coordinated out there. My sense is there's more to come once the wingers and midfielders get better attuned to his strengths and style. Going to be hard for a lot of premier league defenders to keep up with his energy and power.

Eze is gonna have heart eyes once he realises that he can send Gyökeres running in the channel instead of having to do it himself. There was one such pass from Calafiori against Leeds and it resulted in a goal from nothing. There was another run yesterday and it ended up in a shot nearly splintering the woodwork.

I think Arteta needs to adapt to this too and make it a thing we're looking for on the pitch, because there's no player in the world who's more dangerous when he gets to cut in from the left. You can feed him scraps up top too just by incessantly crossing it into the box and he'll probably adapt, but it's a bit like driving a Ferrari like a Fiat.
