Maybe, but don't forget we're getting him out of his overly long Chelsea contract on those wages. I doubt our offer is on high wages as we got those personal terms sorted very swiftly and the man is clearly going to get sidelined by Maresca and Boehlly's unhinged forward signing spree.

TambourineMan They replaced with him with other players. As part of their great sporting experiment in “let’s buy every young talented winger on the planet”. And we are shopping for a backup RW (unless a considerable number of quality ITKs are wrong about our interest in other players), not a starter.

It’s fine to be dubious of the player, the fee, whatever, but at a certain point…

CPM it's very stressful. I'll be fine if we end up with GyökEze, but not fine until both happen.

CPM It's a bit of a cliffhanger with Gyökeres, but still feels like it'll get done as the other possibilities make no sense. So long as that goes through I can live with Madueke. I reckon Rodrygo is out of reach and the Eze deal appears to be alive.

banduan It's been put about by a reliable source hasn't it? But either way the nature of the negotiation suggests to me we're getting him on modest wages, as it explains why we're bidding up higher with Chelsea. And from the player's point of view he's being saved from an exit to a mid table club.

So it'll be either him or Martinelli at LW to start the season and that's a lose/lose.

And it sounds like it's Eze or Nwaneri for 8/10.

Big Willie You want to bet that he'll be our LW? If we sign him there's no way Arteta is buying him for 50m to sit him as a backup to Saka.

Romano is already reporting that we're still interested in Eze. On the one hand, if we get Eze instead of Rodrygo and we spend an unprecedented amount of money in the transfer window just to end up with a "marquee signing" of Eberechi Eze then that would be more Tottenham than anything Tottenham have ever done. On the other hand, it would seem pretty unlikely that Madueke would play left wing over Eze.

Maybe it just looks high because a big amount of add-ons is included, as speculated on Twitter.

It would be unusual, but since Chelsea need to raise money urgently maybe they agreed to something like this which allows them to put it down as a 50 million sale for now, when in reality the number they'll realistically get from us is much smaller.

We'll have to wait and see as the details emerge, but this would be my guess.

If the wages really are £50k for 5 years, that puts the total value of fee + wages at £65m or so. The same as £32.5m fee and £125k wages.
