Burnwinter just picture it, you start with a full team away, you've got a CL game midweek and its 0-0 at the 70th minute, all of a sudden you are swapping out Saka and Gyokeres and bringing on Madueke and Havertz.

Loving him cautiously! Talented but still needs to adapt to his teammates a bit. Still he is like a breath of fresh air. Direct, dangerous and plays without a care in theme world. 👏🙌

What I find most impressive is that he has the ability to look up and dribble/ move with the ball. Most players like him look down and lack awareness. What he lacks is timing of the pass or may be that's just knowing his team mates better. Let's hope he is another one of those Chelsea players who got away from them. If he adds a bit of intelligence and variety to his play he could explode.

I wonder if will see saka on the left at some point in the season. If Noni continues his form, someone like me will be tempted to try Saka at left with him being more experienced.

Big fan of how Madueke's performed and I can see potential but there's a long way for him to go before he's a regular in the first team let alone worthy of getting Saka to move away from his preferred position.

Madueke was our brightest attacker but ultimately players like Saka (or Eze) will walk off that pitch with a goal or an assist against a team like Forest, even if they weren't as dominant. That's the standard he needs to reach.

Mirth I think he will go up a level very soon and we have nabbed from Chelsea before he does that. From people who have worked with him they all say he is a keen learner and works hard on his game, combine that with the talent he has I have no doubt this guy will go up a level or even two with us in the near future.

He's relentlessly positive, his movement off the ball is so excellent he's endlessly testing for weaknesses. You'd be knackered after marking him for a bit. Nothing is in a straight line he's constantly alive and probing angles.

banduan Think there's also the fact that football fans in general have been conditioned to prefer a great touch, even if that touch goes backwards, to players who have a sense of directness about them. Ball retention is considered better than trying to make something happen. Even dribbling the way Doku and Savinho does it has become about keeping the ball in the final third.

I always thought that Madueke stood out at Chelsea in a negative way because they subdued his natural qualities. He would have looked better at Crystal Palace for instance.

JazzG Have very little time for prats like Neville who can't make these connections to be honest: it's one thing that fans don't see it, they mainly deal with the factual output of the team, but he's being paid as an analyst to consider the bigger perspective. What's his point if he's just gonna sound like one of the lads at the pub?

@Speedster , Here’s the thing, very rarely do you see a premier league game where the attacking player has the defenders number all day.

Not a good 10 minute spell, or 15 minute spell, or half. All 90+ minutes. Literally doing whatever he wanted against the defender whenever he wanted. It was high school stuff out there. Against a premier league defender. One v one, in a bit of space, he is near unstoppable. Basically only passed the ball off when space was super tight to bring in support (Gyokeres/Timber), or the few moments when he thought about the fellas family watching on tv.

Outstanding performance. If he’s able to do this, even if it’s only against the dregs of the league, it will bring so much value. See how Liverpool/Salah struggled yesterday against Burnley, and their best option was Ngomuha. If Saka is struggling, imagine having the ability to throw on Madueke and say go on then, give em hell. The upshot even if he’s unable to beat his man is that more often than not he wins corners, and we can get either a direct or indirect goal off Set Piece FCism. The attrition and fear factor was palpable throughout the game Saturday. Opens up space for others. And he will eventually get his goals and assists. I have no doubt.

Very interested in seeing how Arteta shuffles the pack going forward. No way this level of threat/impact is left on the bench long term.

You could say the same about Saka, Ødegaard, Eze, Nwaneri, Gyökeres, Havertz and even Dowman and if we include "relationships" that's the pack we've got to shuffle around his area of the pitch … our squad is mad now.

No RW showing anything less than continual work rate and end product will be a sure starter. I say that as a Madueke advocate. I don't think anyone who doubts him has anything to worry about, because even if they're only 50% right we won't see too much of him.

There's a reason why I am so bullish on him. His final action is currently stopping him from being one of the very best in the world.

His ability to beat his marker is statistically top 5 in the world.

All the stats and eye test showed there was was a serious player there. Up to him now to move to the next level.

It says something about Arteta though that most who'd watched him for Chelsea are surprised how good he's been for us so far.

Fucking hell its amazing these pundits are allowed (encouraged) to spout fuck all. There's a collection of posts on here that offer far more analysis of what Madueke is actually do that makes him exciting. As others have called out, he's working his ass off to receive the ball in space, which enables him to attack on a diagonal, and in turn he challenges his defender to defend both sides, and lets Madueke get up to speed.

He's put in performances like this before - it was consistency and end-product that he lacked. Over a longer sample size, he could revert to being inconsistent.

However, he's always looked super impressive to me for England, and I always felt that his greater pace would pose a threat to Saka. Fortunately (last season), he just never managed to put it together.
