Our current £65m striker has 24 G/A in 31 games playing as a striker, that £65m striker was also one of our driving forces when we won 14 of our last 16 games and pushed City to the final game. Lets see if Gyokeres has that kind of impact for us, I'm not even sure he'd start over Havertz in key games.

Madueke is overpriced, I think we have paid too much for him but he isn't some fucking pub player like people are making. Stats below show him being one of the most effective player in the league and he is getting better.

We have scored a fuck load of goals for a team who haven't made a single good attacking signing. When you say this, it doesn't make sense that you're sceptical about Gyokeres. Because the quoted part can be used about any signing we make. In fact, it's a sentence that tells me you don't think there's any point to have an opinion of your own about a signing because if Arteta wants someone then you'll be firmly behind him and agree, and vice versa.

It’s really odd Jazz. Folk seem blind to his talent. Every time we’ve faced Madueke he’s always been one of the few players who made me nervous. Reason being he has the ability to get past anyone and he carries such a threat.

Lookman gave me a similar vibe when we played Atalanta at their gaff. Gordon is another player who I feel can have his way with us when he’s in the mood

lorddulaarsenal He's not aesthetically pleasing on the eye and looks awkward on the ball so people are using that to write him off. He isn't worth the money we have paid but he is a decent player. Gives us a new dimension to our attack and if he is happy to join and play under Saka what more do we want? We've looked at other players who have decided against joining us because they play in Saka's position. Also gives us versatility as he can play both sides. Another thing which is rarely mentioned is how two footed he is.

Your point about how he played against us is spot on. Fergie used to put a lot of weight behind how players played against his Man Utd team, if they could perform against them for him that showed they had the character to play against anyone. Whenever we have played Chelsea he has been one of their bright sparks against us, on the whole we've dealt with him but that is more down to us being an excellent team defensively than him.

QuincyAbeyie We can all have our own opinion, personally would I have gone for Madueke no but I can see the thinking behind it.

If I'm honest I am very sceptical of Gyokeres, I want to believe he will do well here but I don't think he will. But when you look around, Isak isn't moving, Sesko has been priced out, Etikike similar so it doesn't really leave that many other options. So we then need to look at it from that angle, how many realistic options are there for us?

What I am saying is I'm not gonna go on strike as an Arsenal fan and say I want Arteta sacked or lose the plot over a player joining and I feel very strongly that Gyokeres isn't the right guy for us. If he joins us I'll firmly be behind him and he'll have my full support.

JazzG the problem is he reminds me of Gervinho. A lot of chaos, flashes of brilliance, clumsy but can be effective. My Chelsea friends (one of them a season ticket holder) told me he has one good game out of 6.

JazzG they signed 4 attackers and he saw the writing on the wall. its pretty clear they were planning to move on from him. its like real madrid not explicitly telling rodrygo to leave, but just leaving him on the bench every game so he comes to his own conclusions

Sicario2 He is a bit of a chaos merchant, probably what we need? We need someone unpredictable and willing to take risks. He has quick feet, two footed, how many games have you seen teams camped back and we struggle to break through? He is good at crossing in to the rear post, Havertz will love those crosses. He gets on the ball and adds urgency and gets the ball up the field quickly. He isn't worth £50m right now but he isn't some £25m player either, we probably overpaid by around £10m.

Asterix True, Elanga has just gone for £55m. Mbeumo has a year left on his contract and he is gonna go for over £60m and Kudos has gone for £55m. Mbeumo has had the best season of the lot but he has massively outperformed his xG and we've see countless times that isn't always sustainable.

The worry about this signing is mainly because people are worried it'll mean we don't get a LW and he'll probably be Arteta's main guy on the wing opposite Saka. At least that's what I'm worried about. Eze is separate be ause he plays 8 and in a pinch on the wing. But even Eze I'm worried may not happen happen if we're getting Madueke because then where does that leave Nwaneri?

I can't make sense of this signing with such a high cost if he's backup to Saka and even less sense if he's our marquee LW signing. It looks like it's happening though so no point getting wound up about an inevitability. Just have to hope it works out and if it doesn't Arteta will have a lot to answer for.

I'm not Tambourine Man but for me it would be if his GA per 90 was hitting his xG and xA for this season or thereabouts. That would probably then mean he was saving our arses and raking us in a few points. He'll be a fan favourite if he achieves it.

For now, my opinion is firmly that:

he'll give us no more than 10 G/A
his average match rating on WhoScored/SofaScore/Squaka/Transfermarkt will be less than 6.5
he'll be booed by the Emirates fanbase for being shit at least once
he underperforms his xG
we win sweet fuck all if he is our marquee LW signing (which I worry he might end up being). hopefully reporting is right (but every bit of cope reporting we've read so far has been wrong - fee, then upfront amount and soon will be about his wages also) and he's just a back up RW who gets 10 mins here or there (great use of £52m).
his value on Transfermarkt drops by the end of the season
we will eventually sell him for a huge loss or start loaning him out like we've had to do with our other shitsters like Fabio Vieira.
his failure won't stop us from trying our luck in Chelsea's trash heap again next summer.

Gunner89 He has the stats playing in a poor league against teams who wouldn't be good enough to play in the Championship. He could transfer that over here but I'd argue there is as high a chance he won't.

Lacazette scored 4 league goals in his last season for us (averaged around 11 a season for us) went back to France and scored 27 league goals. The PL is a unforgiving league where players who take too much time on the ball or can't deal with physical pressure get found out. From what I've seen with Gyokeres he also has those problems but if he does join I'm not gonna cry about it. I do see his qualities and have said for a transition side or foreign league I could see him tearing shit up, he's a good player but I don't think the right player for us. But if the option is him or nobody I'd happily take him.

Those pie charts give unbiased view on players, facts not feelings. I've also watched him numerous times, I wouldn't have he is a player I want or would have even been on my list to blow £50m on , we've defo paid £10m too much for him. I can however see the logic behind signing him. Firstly we've been linked to other RW players and they don't want to join because of Saka so if he is happy to be a squad player that is a positive, secondly gives us pace and a directness we don't have out wide. Finally we are crying out for options and different type of attacking players to compliment what we have. As long as this doesn't affect our other business I'm not too bothered.

Nearly doubling what Chelsea paid for him for a player who, even today, remains as much all potential as he was when they signed him, is madness.

The difference between how the Norgaard signing has been received vs how the Jorginho one was suggests there is something in this to me.

55-60m these days is getting you players who have shown consistent periods of form like Cunha, Mbuemo, MGW etc.

Factoring in wages, those guys are probably around 22m a year players whereas Madueke is likely closer to 15m a year and a couple of years younger. Significant difference in overall cost.

Gunner89 the 'chelsea bins' thing is definitely an issue for alot of people. I'm not one of them, my issue is purely with our recruitment decisions and the player. I'd be just as annoyed if we bought madueke from Bournemouth or Brentford.
