jones sure but my point is Kelleher and Ortega have been good enough to win the league as back ups for their respective clubs, I fail to see how Kepa is an impediment to that.
As for how this transfer played out, again there's nothing weird about it to me. We had a first choice 'stretch' signing which didn't work out so we went for a more experienced older keeper that's settled and played in the league. By definition, you're always going to have keepers that could be better alternatives to your back up keeper but I still don't see the red flag.
As for the price, while more expensive than a back up goalie should be, the Kepa signing is still likely to be cheaper than whatever we earmarked for Joan Garcia once wages + transfer fees are rolled in. Kepa's also only on a 3 year deal so we'd have the optionality to look for other keepers if needed, he's not locked in for 5 years. It's hardly been a saga either given how quickly it's been wrapped up. To me the mistake would have been being locked in a battle for Garcia only to inevitably lose and scramble once the season begins.
