Agree with this. Our forwards are looking too easily isolated. It's going to keep being a problem without the false 9 runs we've always had from Jesus and Havertz. But that's why we signed Gyökeres, to draw defenders and give the wingers space on their own.
Saka is the only forward we've got who's a massive threat off his own boot.
Once Eze came on you could see how it could've benefited us to have him on in place of Martinelli. Gyökeres was still isolated but Eze was twice able to either cut in or go to the byline and beat one player. He could, in fact, have scored if he'd gotten his legs out.
Before the match started you could understand the logic of selecting Martinelli: his history of performances against Liverpool, our need to cover Salah and Szoboszlai going forward, the hopeful performances from Gabi in the back half of 24–25, the fact Eze was on debut.
