Don Pacifico I don't think its that complicated. The front 3 yesterday were all players who get on the end of things and play fairly pushed up. The likes of Saka and Eze will drop deep and create more. You add that to a midfield with Rice and Merino and you got what we had yesterday. I know Leeds obviously aren't on Liverpools level but you see the difference last week when we have Saka and Nwaneri starting, we create a lot more, get more players involved in attack, etc The front 3 were all completely isolated yesterday, it lead to Gyokeres and Martinelli not getting the ball enough and Madueke getting it but not having the sort of passing option that Odegaard usually provides the RW. The balance was off and that's why the forwards didn't get much. If Odegaard is fit to start I think the game looks completely different.

Qwiss I want to agree with you but I'm not convinced Leeds is an exemplar of a plan working. We struggled to break them down and needed a corner to take the lead. After that, it was open season with much more space behind their defence.

That's the fundamental difference between Jose's away game approach and what we're missing. They had the killer touch up front, while we aren't taking advantage of the counters.

Don Pacifico yeah the biggest worry for me with the signing was Arteta would just put these players in the team with no plan and not adapt us to play their game to get the best of them and almost put it in them to make something. So far I don't feel reassured that isn't what he's been doing.

We are very very far from crisis, as I'm sure you're well aware - you mention 1993, remember how it felt to arrive at school and find out the Merse was knee deep in ching and betting slips, the boss was the king of the brown envelope AND we didn't even know that the skipper was pissing in beds all over London??

Those were proper crisis times.

Burnwinter Both teams set out to make sure they gave little to nothing away, I'd argue both sides put in a superb defensive performance and completely shit the other out. The plan then seemed to be around 70th minute mark bring on Odegaard and Eze and see if we could nick the game. In the end it took a freekick that they could take 1000 times and probably miss 999 times to settle the game.

It really isn't deeper than that, the mental gymnastics that is going on is laughable. This was like that game when Martinelli scored against Man City with the deflection, there was nothing in the game and it took a bit of luck to win it. That day it went for us and yesterday it went to Liverpool.

Qwiss we did. The league season was horrific though.. If this place has existed then, George Graham would have been ripped apart every week. I think we scored 40 goals in 38 games!

Btw, I only mentioned 93 as that's when Sicario said he started supporting then. Merse and the George bungs all came out in 1994/95.

Why did i know that this thread would be full of nonsense after a tough loss at Anfield (arguably our toughest away game of the season).

Did you guys think we were going through the season unbeaten? We are in Game 3 of 38.. We currently sit in 3rd. We have conceded exactly 1 goal (a worldie).

The amount of doom and gloom from some posters is ridiculously OTT.

USArsenal this is not game 3 of season 1 Arteta though. Stop looking at this in isolation of one season but in the greater context of a manger that has spent 1 billion and hasn’t got to a final in 5 years. We played yesterday like we played v City away in 2024. Where is the improvement. Where is the advancement?

You guys make too many excuses for Mikel. If we don’t beat Newcastle away you will say it’s only game 5 or some other BS. There is not much margin of error and we had a chance yesterday to also make a statement and get a win across the line v a direct title rival.

Well, sometimes thats what it takes. We can score goals different ways. Isn't that what good teams are supposed to do? We had a corner, 2 from open play, another corner and a penalty.

Don Pacifico we scored after 36 minutes. Before that we had 4 shots. We were firmly in control and Gyokeres fluffed probably the best chance of the game. We then went on to win 5-0. Not sure what more we can expect there.

USArsenal over the course of the season, we've seen that the set piece well eventually runs dry. We can't always rely on them so we need to be seeing more from open play, especially against a team like Leeds who offered nothing.

Qwiss 4 shots ignores the context that we didn't create clear-cut chances. Leeds offered no threat and we were sterile in possession.

Qwiss for me it's more that set pieces aren't often that reliable and the struggle against Leeds is reminiscent of much of last season which led to many draws which is ultimately what killed us. I personally don't think we looked that great against Leeds from an attacking sense even though it was 5-0 but I accept we beat what was in front of us. But we struggled with creativity against United and Liverpool both teams that haven't looked particularly strong defensively and that is a potential worry applied across the season if we continue like this.

The response will be to go on a run now and I think that includes getting a win against city at home.
