RocktheCasbah I think of how magnificent we were in the first hour against Manchester City, New Year's Day bringing the promise of a new Arsenal, even if we lost in the end.

I'd forgotten about that - that first half is some the best football I've ever seen us play in a decade or more .

Mirth yeah, that's when it started to feel like something was happening with the squad/team. Think most of us went into that match thinking we had no hope and then dominated the first half; should have won but for Gabs getting sent off.

RocktheCasbah I guess because my enjoyment of a football season isn't predicated on winning something at the end of it.

neither is mine. I enjoy watching good football and having a good time with mates as much as the next man, but regardless to how many stadiums all over Europe I have been no big night away or home weekend ever matches up to the dopamine release after a final.

To be honest I've no idea how exactly what you describe differs from any other season, you get sunshine and couple of decent matches every year. Then again most of yous will turn your nose up at it but when Frankfurt won the Europa League in 2022 that was the greatest night of my time as a football fan bar 15 May 2004.

because after the dog days of Wenger, the Emery disasterclass and then - and I think Qwiss is probably onto something when he referenced it - having fans back in the stadium post covid, it really felt to me that I was getting my Arsenal back. I can't explain it any other way, but it really was as simple as that.

Lol the only good thing about 21/22 was part of the City game at home. That was, finally, a glimpse of what Arteta had been building towards.

The losses to Newcastle and Spurs made for a truly revolting week.

Klaus Harsh on Trossard there, he gets a nasty pass from Partey first and then has a defender on him straight away. Partey is mainly at fault but to be fair he also created the chance. Has no awareness of what is around him, Odegaard should not be running towards the ball either it has to be taken by Trossard first time. Trossard hesitates, he probably has seen Partey and Odegaard running at the ball and he should be running full steam at the ball and putting his foot through the ball and Partey if needed!

Klaus That reminds me of the clip below, Henry talks about the advice Wenger gave him about understanding how to move depending on who had the ball.

Trossard was CF that day wonder what would happen if that was Gyok. I imagine he'd tell Partey to get the fuck out the way and at least manage a shot on target.

Partey fucked the opportunity up - he should be leaving the ball for Trossard to shoot and Trossard should be going at the ball with full intensity to shoot.

daredevil Two players who can't do anything with their weaker foot. Look at Partey nearly pulling a hamstring just so he can toe the bloody ball with his right, and Trossard needing five yards and three touches to reposition himself for a shot. Shambles.

Our players are always either walking on quicksand or falling over like it's their first time rollerblading when they're in the box.

Embarrassing. You don't see that with decisive teams like Liverpool.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert Think it was Cruijff (or possibly Wenger) who said that training with better players raises the general intelligence in the team. Even if you're not a natural goalscorer you know what Henry would do in a certain situation after a while. If you watch him putting the boot through the ball on the training ground you'll try to do the same. If you train with strikers who lack those instincts on the other hand...

Klaus very true. Havertz demonstrating shooting wearing sofa cushions instead of football boots in training cannot be very helpful.

Looking forward to Viktor showing them how it's done.

I also think the attackers need to receive minimal instructions when in the box; it's all about intuition and instinct.

Wasn't thinking about the first pass but the way he twists and turns after that to get the ball into his right foot. If you're gonna be a forward you need to hit the ball before a 2-vs-1 situation turns into 2-vs-3. Agree Partey is the main culprit though, bloody hell.

This.. Partey needed to nick the ball from the defender, and then see Trossard running full steam at it to take the shot, and he shoulda gotten the fuck out of the way. If its one thing Tross can do is put away a chance from there.

USArsenal that's where you need the forward to be more aggressive. Go in shouting and Partey doesn't move them you reef him out of it too.
