As for the torrid footy….hopeful we can play something nicer to the eye. We were a pain to watch for a solid part of this season. Gabriel and set piece goal scoring really covered up some warts.

By September Arteta will have spent over £850m as Arsenal coach. Yet he hasn't won the league or CL and we're likely starting with Madueke and Havertz** as forwards when the new season begins. He's had more freedom to buy who he wants than Wenger.

90 points in the league is the minimum he has to achieve or at least get to a CL final.

His job is a hot seat now. He's made a fair number of enemies among Arsenal fans with the Partey scandal so I don't think the fans will be as easy on him as they were last season through the shit football and being out of PL contention halfway through the season.

** IMO Arteta will not start the season with Gyokeres in the first XI.

Glad most ppl think this season is make or break for him. He was unnecessarily untouchable for no real reason in recent years.

I don't disagree with your basic conclusion but I'm not sure his total spend is entirely relevant when you consider the squad he inherited.

That being said, the level we've spent at this summer and the number of players we've bought (/will buy) is a serious commitment from the club given we've finished 2nd for three seasons (ie. we're starting from a high base). All that money has been spent to climb a single place in the league table, which to me is relevant - he really has to deliver on that backing now.

Dom Arteta is not on the hot seat in the slightest. He has the very strong support of the higher-ups, the players, and the matchgoing fans. His seat would start getting warm after a disappointing season this year.

Think it's always hard to say "This specific season has to be a success" because there's always gonna be a large part that is dependent on injuries and other things, but looking at the upcoming two-year period we really should accumulate 2-3 big trophies (I'm not talking about winning the league cup). The build has been massive and it's time to deliver before the key players get too old and/or demand to leave.

One advantage of having other people doing their job is that it makes roles and responsibilities clearer for everyone to see. If there are indications that we're tactically limited or too rigid on the pitch it will be much easier to scrutinise the manager now, because it's not because he's been underhanded.

I don't think that's impossible (I also think we've played good football prior to last season's injuries etc.) although the net impact of our recruitment is unclear.

Think Zubimendi will help us transition more quickly but Gyokeres and Madueke don't offer much innovation outside of their given instructions.

Sicario2 The players are very happy and all praise the club's environment in general and Mikel in particular, and the board is backing him with record investment. Players are shitting themselves for the opportunity to play here. If you think Arteta is on the hot seat because he's only finishing 2nd and making CL semi-finals, or because he didn't buy enough forwards last summer, you're kidding yourself. The club hasn't been in this good a state in 20 years.
