Given his longevity the answer is probably no.

Alex Ferguson at United might be a parallel? Not sure, his barren years were before my time but I know he spent some pretty substantial money at the time.

Pressure was already on this season but yeah with all the additions its really now or never. We have to at least grab an FA cup and go close in the 2 big ones.

I'm a big fan - but if we don't win anything this season - then I would be interested in seeing what a new coach can do. Bring Inzaghi from Al Hilal and give him the reigns.

Pepe LeFrits good shout. They signed loads of players for big money in the late 80's after Fergies first couple of poor seasons.

JazzG true but that wasn't "his team" right he's been backed to create the team he wants at decent expense and so far not been able to win trophies with "his players". In fact the type of player that's not really his type was the big difference maker in the games against City and Chelsea that was a significant factor in us winning that trophy.

So these years are very much where you judge the results of what Arteta has built there is nobody else in the club who has had as greater influence in creating this team and it's identity.

awooga83 True but I'd argue the position of the club right now is a hell of a lot better than it was when he joined. Our lack of trophies in the last few years has been down to a bit to bad luck but also not enough depth.

If you look at our FA cup exits. We battered Man Utd and somehow managed to lose, last season we battered Liverpool and somehow managed to lose. Even the season before we went to City and gave them a bloody good game before losing 1-0.

Though you can't keep having bad luck, this window we are making big steps in addressing our squad issues.

The club have backed Arteta by some measure this summer (assuming these are his signings, which I have no reason not to believe). He's said he needs a bigger squad and they've delivered with more willingness than I anticipated.

To that end, I'm currently struggling to see a justification from him if we don't win anything. And we really should be winning the league based on what we've invested this summer and the number of players recruited. Whether we do or not is another matter but if we don't, I'd expect it to be the fault of the manager/player recruitment.

MistaT yes, league or CL is a must next season.

FA Cup alone only acceptable if we play good footy, hit 90 in the league AND go deep (semi's/quarters) in the CL.

Otherwise he has to go.

90+ points is what I'd be looking for. If we lose to a 99 point season from Pool I'm not blaming our manager.
