It used to be we'd score and coast to a win with minimal shots on target. At least it papered over the offensive gaps. Did Calafiori really make that big of a difference?

Cunha and Mbuemo scoring while Noni goofed around was a slap. Feels like we could fall off badly if we don’t win this season - our “win now” players aren’t good enough.

The shocking aspect here is that still Eze only came on twice for 20-30 mins in the league (since villa when he was asked to play as a tracking left winger) with that disjointed pair of merino-rice in midfield

Madueke is a dud, that one's on arteta to spend near similar levels of a fee on him as mbuemo/cunha/semenyo

Reality is that we spent 170-180m on Gyo, Eze and Madueke to improve our attack-

Gyo was berta influenced so i'll give arteta that one but 120m could certainly have been better spent both of which were arteta signings

What you wrote basically suggests - Arteta and the staff wanted that signing but Edu had vetoed it, Berta went along with it but that doesn't mean he endorsed it or wanted us to of his own accord go for it like he did with gyokeres

Pretty good I'd say even with their first 2 CB's injured (Gvardiol till end of season) and Dias out for 6 weeks plus Stones out indefinitely plus Ake can play one game a week plus Rodri still barely managing one game a week after being out 18 months plus Marmous and Ait Nouri being at afcon they're only 4 behind us which was a lesser lead than we had in feb 23 when we bottled it and we also have to go to the etihad and also they now have Guehi and Semenyo

As much as people don't like to believe it, these things are mostly group decisions being made, there's generally no epic power struggle going on... and replacing Edu with Berta, it looks like we have lost that voice/view/vision of what type of attacking quality we need, and Arteta clearly needs help with that as its one of his weaker points.

speaking of Wenger comparison this is why I am seriously concerned with these signings.

Wenger could always build a lethal attack, bring in attacking player combine them to more than the some of its part, the defence, not so much... so what he done is his good years, was go out and sign some world class defenders and let them do there job, whether he had help in that I dont know... but that is what worked..

Arteta is the opposite, he can build world class team, defensively brilliant that can dominant any team, but it comes at the expense of flowing attacking football, we needed to offset that by buying world class players and we have taken a significant step back on that front..

Like I said, I'd give Berta a minus for Gyokeres but not for closing a deal which the manager and the coaching staff seemed to quite want especially when he's new to a club and doesn't necessarily want to get into a conflict with a manager who has a big influence at the club

I think arteta wasn't against Gyokeres but it was heavily influenced by Berta, Ornstein reported of this way back in March even when no other report came out

What notable world class attacking signing did we get from Edu? His signings at forest have been a disaster - 30m forward already shipped out, Luiz loan apparently being cut short, 40m hutchinson with 1 goal, Mcatee barely played, 40m right winger from france 0 goals, 40m signing from bologna 1 goal - Only decent one has been jesus more with his all round play rather than goals (2 for a cf)

Edu wasn't bringing in attacking quality either. If he had we wouldn't have went into last summer needing so many front line additions. Never forget these guys were going hard to sign Mudryk too.

There are a lot of things I don't like about Arteta's style, but the worst is the lack of pace on the ball. Our passing game is so slow and meticulous. Easy to defend against.

I mean its just wording, I dont see the difference, seen similar said about Noni which I try to find .. what we know for fact is, Berta came in and these are the signing we got.. except for Zubi which we know was pre Berta... now you can say its ultimately Arteta's fault, and thats not wrong but that is not his only role... Berta though should be judged 100% on these signings, nothing else.

Gunner89 if you believe that, fair enough, I don't think that's quite true, he has much more of any influence that just closing deal..

What I'm struggling to understand though is if that's the case why is Gyok different? He came in the same summer, you cant have it both ways.
