Qwiss The problems with INEOS would mostly go away if they hire the right manager IMO, it’s not a Chelsea/BlueCo situation with this crazy management strategy that ties the coach’s hands. They’re incompetent for hiring Amorim without understanding the problems his tactical rigidity would cause, and then they created a bad situation where they seem to have reneged on transfer promises because they didn’t trust him. Their recruitment in the summer was pretty good overall and their squad is getting better. We can see with hindsight that Edu was a bit of a zero, but it didn’t matter because Arteta was driving the bus on transfers.
And I’m not so much making Arteta a Christ-like figure as arguing the importance of a good manager. The top clubs in the PL all have big corporate structures and more varied responsibilities than the Fergie/Wenger era, but at the end of the day they are driven by great managers in Arteta, Guardiola, and Emery, who have the most important voice in the room on every big decision. Take away the manager and things fall apart quickly.
If Arteta doesn’t win any big trophies obviously that seriously hurts his legacy. But as long as his heart is in the job he’s always going to give us the best chance to win. And the ownership certainly isn’t dropping him, he has turned the club into a money machine and a leading brand in world football. His job is under zero threat.
