awooga83 so, the problem I think we can identify here is that we have to rely almost exclusively on one man for midfield creativity. This is why I am of the opinion that (hot take alert) Rice, great as he is, is a bad fit for us attacking wise because I feel like he lacks the creativity and quickness of mind to see and execute the most dangerous and risky/ probing passes. He is also not efficient enough to get the number of goals from midfield he should ideally be fetching. In our system, creativity comes from midfield and full backs. Our fullbacks have been mid in that respect (hope maybe Blanco rectifies that a bit), our midfield needs someone else to whom it can pivot if one option isn't delivering. A Bernardo Silva to help out De Bruyne. A Xhaka+ Grimaldo to support Wirtz on the left. We have lots of graft, not enough craft. Even when everyone is fit and on form.

flobaba you've hit on something here that I've thought before. Basically we play with defensive/control focussed full backs and a defensive/control focussed midfield. It makes us lack a lot of dynamism.

As I've said elsewhere is can work but you need more quality up front.

Qwiss why I always say you need to start from that left 8 position. It connects so many positions. If that position isn’t dynamic, it impacts striker, left back and left wing’s ability to contribute to attack. You need to be able to get the ball into the penalty box reliably. And we don’t do it from the left. At all.

One internal solution is to audition Nwaneri there. But this is a complex role and he will have many fuck ups early on

Qwiss this time last year we were swashbuckling and solid as can be. We were reliant on Havertz being in form though. We are very consistent. What’s holding us back is quality and the depth of quality in attack as you highlight
