I think you're falling for the Madrid propaganda personally. Everything I've read from the people I trust say its a done deal to Arsenal and he's excited to play for Arteta. I will be very surprised if they are all wrong.

samthegooner all those guys got hoodwinked last summer when he was linked to Liverpool. That's probably the primary reason I feel a little uncertain right now (that and his non-committal comments).

Klaus it’s not as if Real Madrid wanted him over night - he knew about their interest long time ago.

Zubi should be ours but until it’s signed on the dotted line it’s always a slight risk. If we do fuck it up it will he the most embarrassing since Suarez debacle in 2013 so I pray we get him over the line. Imagine the meltdown if we don’t.

Think Alonso going there changes the equation. I don't blame him for not wanting to play in Ancelotti's midfield but it's a new team now with a player he idolised now managing the team. If we hadn't done so much prep work then I would say we have no chance of getting him.

Anyway, it doesn't matter either way - we just need to resolve it asap and move on if it does look like we're losing him.

Tactics It sounds like we have a legal agreement for Zubimendi, I expect the club will have their lawyers all over this if an agreement is breached. I think this is just Madrid's press shit stirring, they might be going for another player and trying to drive that price down.

daredevil I said at the start of last season that no team had ever increased its points tally over 5 consecutive seasons in the PL and it turned out that we couldn't either.

This kind of expected period (in effect, a positive difference function of a windowed count of successful random trials with an increasing success probability) will happen mathematically with or without club and squad "success cycles".

The "cycles" premise would need to be supported with an account of cycle length that factored in squad rebuilding, nett transfer spend, total squad estimated value, managerial change etc showing how these factors co-determine an expected upper time period such as "five seasons" for sustained success.

I don't think Madrid can sign a 6 for big money when they already have Camavinga and Tchouameni. They do need a midfield controller, but I think he needs to be more of an 8, making Valverde more of a utility player. It's all moot anyway, the papers are signed, we're just waiting for July to suit Sociedad's finances.
