Burnwinter I worry about signing a kid then hearing next summer about how he's still adapting.

Understandable but I worry just as much about signing a 27 year old with no experience of a top league and then hearing next summer about how he's struggling while another young striker has popped off and has moved into the only affordable by Real/PSG/City bracket. People are talking about Gyokeres being a sure thing but there's no such thing in football, at least when signing a player from a second tier league. Three years ago Nunez was the consensus choice on here; Isak was the 'project' who turned out to be the best striker signing by miles. There's a huge degree of uncertainty to these decisions.

Yes. But going by the ELO-adjusted* modelling I've seen, Gyökeres would be predicted to score 22–23 goals in the league if he stays fit (0.59 goals per 90 was the number). There is no sure thing, that's why one says "predicted". It's not about the squad value of Sesko versus Gyöko over five or ten years for me. A major trophy in the next couple of seasons would likely have big lateral benefits: player and staff retention, sponsorships, prize money, take best advantage of the peak football years of our generally excellent squad, etc.

* Obviously this will be bullshit, but on the other hand, "we applied a factor to account for the fact Portugal isn't England" isn't total bullshit

Exactly. I think what’s important is you go for the profile of player you want. I would imagine Arteta is drawn to Sesko’s immense physical power. That’s something we really lack in the attacking third.

It’s why I want Barcola on the left. If we can’t get him go for Williams, Gittens or Semenyo

USArsenal Spending 70-80 million on a big, strong, technically proficient striker hardly signals an 'unserious' move.

Spending 80 million on a kid who scored 13 goals in Bundesliga is an unserious move when you don't have a single player who hit double digits in the league last season. The rest is just conjecture. There isn't another top club where this would be acceptable. He might be great in the future; he's unlikely to be great next season. Arsenal are always willing to trade next season for a potential future and it's precisely why this club doesn't win trophies.

PSG and Liverpool both focus on project players. This season hasn't ended badly for them.

I don't think anyone is ruling out Gyökeres as an option. But he's a player tons of teams will be looking at so if he's all we chase we could end up with a lot of egg on our faces.

Generally ambivalent on who we go for but the distinction is that Liverpool are also prepared to go big for established talent like van Djik, Alisson or maybe even Wirtz to support their project players.

We can have a project player at either LW or ST but they have to be supported by someone more established. Or, in other words, if we sign Sesko and Gittens, we're effectively writing off next season.

From the childish fans definitely. But there's not enough top strikers. City need another, we need at least one, manU need 2, Liverpool need 1 maybe 2.

ManU signed the ones that were available last year and they flopped. Nunez flopped at Liverpool. All we can do is sign the best available option to us. And work to improve him. He looks like he's got a lot to work on. Hopefully theirs enough adults in the stadium to support his growth.

I'd rather spend big on Zubimendi and a winger, and try to get someone like Sørloth in, than spend huge money on Sesko.

I think we've tried that before theirs been strong links to big wing prospects. But with Jesus finished, and Obi jumping ship I think we need a someone who's primarily a striker.

The pickings are limited. But we've to for it now. And signing a 29 year old could be a mega car crash.

I guess the hope with sesko is that even if he's not top drawer we can probably still recoup a decent fee a la Nunez, balagon, Eddie

Maybe but we added Rice at 100m to try get us over the line. Partey was a huge fee to at the time. Havertz was a huge fee. And mudrk was a huge fee thankfully we don't get that over the line.

Marty, Saka, Ode, trossard and havertz are all super established.

I do get what you're saying but it's not like we're adding 17 year olds to a team of 19 year olds.

In retrospect nobody is wishing we past on saliba for another Sokratis. Despite the fact we had a cluster of shit CBs at the time.

banduan I don’t have much faith in his technique, from what I’ve seen, but at the very least it will never be world class, and at worst he will be a baffoon against the low blocks we face, which kind of requires world class technique and intelligence.

Like I said he looks to be another Martinelli, robust, physical squad player that is no where near the level to be the star.

if all his production from last season came from LW I'd be on board. he can do decent a job there as he's quick and clever, but I wouldn't want him as our primary LW signing. now, as a versatile depth signing AFTER we secure a top LW it's hard to look past mbeumo. he's an enhanced trossard

Gazza M I like Mbeumo but not sure how he fits in. Makes more sense if Trossard doesn't extend his contact. That way he becomes his replacement, a versatile option for us who can cover 2/3 positions but we also need to sign a RW.

We need to be able to rotate Saka next season, we can't keep pushing him the way we have in recent years.

Same, he reminds me of Iwobi but without the annoying parts. Similar to Cunha I think he's best centrally though. I'm not sure how good he would be as a winger.

I don't care for Mbeumo personally. Wrong flank for one thing, too darren-benty for another. Think he's unlikely to get numbers anywhere near this season again.

I don't know what to make of the fact that there seem to be no rumours surrounding actual left wingers.

Mbuemo is better than any other winger we've been linked to. I do wonder how effective he'd be on the other side although he's shown he's well capable of thumping them in high at the near post when he's on the left, and I'd be surprised if Walcott-style daisycutters into the far corner were beyond him.

I dont know, there seem to be rumors of Williams starting to warm up a little bit.
