I liked Arteta’s comments about needing to add goals, creativity and numbers to the playing staff.
Despite being at an elevated level we still have so much room for improvement which is highly encouraging.
Let’s dump Sterling and actually get some benefit from that squad role. Same goes for Tierney, and Tomiyasu’s spots.
As far as additions go for me the prioritise are:-
1) new striker - perhaps the addition of a top left sided attacker would bring us more on the pitch, but the signing of a world class striker would settle fans the most and mean we’d go in to next season with more enthusiasm and confidence.
It’s hard to have a real preference for those linked. I’d be delighted with either Gyokeres or Sesko. I wouldn’t be against the likes of Vlahovic and Delap provided the left sided attacker is top notch
2) left sided attacker. My preference would be for someone who possesses a lot of running power, someone who can put fear into the opponents by taking players on. So for me Williams, Leao, or Gittens fit the bill. That said Rodrygo would be too much of an opportunity to turn down.
Others of interest would be Gordon, Lookman, Semenyo, Mbeumo and Mitoma.
3) central midfield. Needs bolstering. Zubimendi is the one most touted to join. I’m cool with that.
4) central defender - another option in case Saliba is not available. Probably no need to spend large amounts here.
5) new goalkeeper to provide compilation and cover for Raya. Garcia looks just the ticket.
6) attacking midfielder. Probably one to wait for summer 2027 if we want a top drawer addition, and for now we can rely on Merino, and Nwaneri to provide depth, but if we want to add an established player who can provide telling match altering moments then let’s look to guys like Bruno Fernandes, Bruno Guimaraes, Eze, or Sancet.
Wirzt and Jamal are a pipe dream
