Mirth When a club is seriously considering a transfer it's just the same as regular considering, along with one or more slight frowns and looks of concentration.

lorddulaarsenal would we be better with a spiked metal ball at the end of the stick rather than a dagger? That way you can attack side to side as well as thrusting. But daggers do slice well, and slicing is a good way to go through a defence. Perhaps you're right - dagger it is.

I hope we don't sign Rodrygo. Never impressed me. Our current wingers are better or as good.

Zubimendi and a striker would be a good summer.

Kel Varnsen I think there's another gear in him if given a run at LW. tbh him and nelli are more similar than I would like, but I view rodrygo as the player i hoped martinelli would be by now

Kel Varnsen Bit on the fence as well. Obviously very talented player but not sure he's better than Martinelli who I think is very underrated. Only 6 goals and 5 assists from him this season. 80m would be way overpriced at least.

Qwiss Yeah good shout, forgot all about that. And that was at a time when they were going blow for blow with City and both sides finishing with 90+ points. They still didn't have the pull to bring an English player in.

Segway Have seen some say with Rodrygo you need an overlapping LB because he always comes central from the wing, that obviously creates a problem because we don't have marauding full backs.

I hope we don't get Rodrygo. I am afraid he will be kicked and pushed off the ball too easily in the league and will not get the protection he might expect.
Also I have not been impressed whenever I watch them. Not sure how much of that is him playing out of position.

mohan Seen some say that about him, that the more physical nature of the league will make it harder for him. For the kind of money being talked about we can't get a signing like this wrong.

What is clear with the amount of injuries we had in the front line is that we need a goal threat, we need the firepower out there, and understanding that the context can change tomorrow. We cannot rely just on the numbers we had before. We have to add goals, we have to add creativity, we have to add numbers and that will be in different positions.

Good to hear him say we need creativity. He said similar in the winter too regarding needing a striker so I'm starting to think maybe lack of signings isn't his fault...

Certainly seems like our shortlist for the attack this summer is:
Striker: Alexander Isak (unlikely), Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, and Ollie Watkins.
Winger: Rodrygo, Nico Williams, Bryan Mbuemo, Anthony Gordon, Antoine Semenyo, and Jamie Gittens.

Personally (my preferences change by the day so bear with me), I think my preference would be for a combo of:
Gyokeres, Rodrygo/Williams and Gittens.

I can't decide between Rodrygo and Williams. I have concerns over Rodrygo's ability to handle the EPL intensity but I also think there's real credence to the notion that he hasn't played in his preferred position for most of his tenure at Madrid and giving him a run in at LW will allow him to really shine. The output potential from that wing is alluring and I do think that technically he would bring us up another level. Williams still really tempts me though with his physical traits - he'd instantly change our attack with his explosiveness and I think that him in a more functional attack (like we saw with Spain) would allow him to play to his strengths and wreak havoc on the opposite side of Saka. I love the potential of Gittens and feel like at the right price (no more than 50m), he'd be worth the swing with his rapid pace, ability on the ball and two-footed ball striking. He has the potential to be a world class winger and this is the chance to get him in before he's potentially 100m+.

Add those three players and I think it's a 10/10 window for me, in addition to Zubimendi and whatever else we do from a defensive/midfield/GK perspective (maybe nothing).

I feel that if Delap really has a 30 million release clause he'd be worth a punt in addition to another striker. It seems like a fundamentally good piece of business: it's a small fee and most of it will be recoverable if he's not a success. Sign him and loan him out to a smaller team somewhere where he'll get plenty of minutes, see what happens with his development. He's similar to Gyökeres in several aspects so maybe he'd fit well into Sporting?

I like the idea but I think persuading him it's in his interest to come here would be a struggle. It's a hard case to make when he'll likely play a lot more at virtually all of our rivals (assuming we sign Gyokeres, of course).
