We need two good players for each position if we're looking to go deep in all competitions next season. Martinelli and Williams for example would be very healthy competition.

If Williams can give us something different against low blocks than Marti he'd be a great alternative because that is what we need.

He defo makes sense for them though, losing Kroos and probably Modric this summer they need someone else there.

The Athletic did a good piece on which strikers would suit which club. They didn’t rate Gyokeres for us as he’s seen more as a counter attacking, running in behind forward, not as much a playing against a low block striker. They preferred Ekitike for us, or Sesko to get on the end of crosses.

This is one of the many issues I have with Gyokeres. Unless we revert to employing more counter-attacking football, we're paying a lot of money for a player whose biggest strength will be nullified by how we set up.

I actually wonder whether the recent uptick in interest is more driven by price. Rumours that Lisbon have reduced their asking price and that Sesko/Ekitike have become more expensive. If it means paying a bit more for someone else and maybe buying one less player this summer, I can get on board with not going for Gyokeres.

Asterix There is something about him which just doesn’t feel right. Klaus spoke of him earlier and he’s got a great eye for talent so I’m inclined to go with his view but I just can’t shake this belief that he’s more likely to be another Lacazette than a success for us.

When you play for a top club you don’t get the kind of space that you would for a lower club. These things become painfully obvious when players step up. We saw with Lacazette who probably would do fine for a top 10 club and kills it in France but looked like he has lead in his boots for us. Gyokeres gives me those clunky vibes, he looks great in transition but most of our games are teams setting up a low block and us trying to break it down. That is where the top players differentiate themselves from the lesser talented.

Bring him in. As long as he can pass the ball to Williams and Saka, and knock the occasional shot, I’ll be happy.
On Portugal being a shit league, it’s one thing to dribble louts. It’s another to constantly find the opportunity to hit the ball hard and on target.

USArsenal Even if each player plays half the games, thats a max of 25-30 each, and that's if we go deep into all comps. Most players would say that is not enough games.

That's what happens at big teams though. And its 25-30 starts, you'd still be getting on as a sub and players don't view that the way they used to. I don't think either have quite hit the level where its a problem. You'd have to be Saka, Salah, Vini, Mbappe, etc level for this to be in your mindset IMO.

Qwiss yes it’s unusual to play your wingers or attackers 90 min every game. If you have options you take off one of ,arti or Nikolaev’s or Saka out after 60 etc

There is literally no left sided player who would give you what Saka does.

Sami is very reliable, very important for us to get this deal over the line quickly. Other clubs clearly sniffing around but also with us losing Partey & Jorginho it is imperative we sign a ready made player for this position.

What do you guys make of Adam Wharton?

I watched a few Palace games recently, and while he needs to bulk up a bit I can't remember the last time I saw an English player with this kind of passing ability. Sublime talent. Will surely go for a Rice-esque fee in a few years. I couldn't tell which foot he favours because he was playing defence-splitting passes with both feet.

Really like his potential and has shone is a difficult role at Palace (really noticeable when he was out injured). Still a little too loose with his passing at times, but likely amplified by the way that Palace play. Sure that there a couple of levels of improvement in him. This is the summer to get him and should be the target if Zubamendi transfer fails to complete.

He’s a top talent. Leggy too which is a good trait. Wouldn’t mind picking him up along with Zubimendi
