DiabyKungFu yep agreed but I did see some other twitter posts that were claiming that the guaranteed part of the bid was much lower than 50m and closer to 25m so he may have some basis for his hot take. I didn't see LeGrove's post before I posted here though.

Personally, I feel like our bid was probably closer to 35m with bonuses taking it up to 50m if we win the league or something like that. This would be more in line with what Chelsea paid for him originally.

A bid in that range would be more in keeping with what we've seen from Berta so far in the Norgaard and Kepa deals, as well as the negotiations for Sesko and Gyokeres.

Hope not. I don’t think Rodrygo is a big upgrade on Martinelli, if we actually had a striker and played to Martinelli’s strengths.

We can't be getting rid of the one forward we have right now with top level pace. He started looking like his rapid pace had returned to him towards the end of the year and that is something we lack across the board. Outside of the current squad, the potential signings we are linked with, other than Madueke, are all quick but lack elite top end speed. We need to have at least 1-2 players in the attack who can threaten behind the defense. I believe Gyokeres can do this to an extent but having Martinelli, and potentially Madueke, is important or teams will be able to play a high line with little worry about runners in behind.
