Things like that is what got Man Utd into the position they are in now, we are not Vibes FC and can't be making £70m signings just for the feels. We should sign who the management and our scouts think is the best, even if that annoys a section of our fanbase. Once fans start running clubs you know you are in trouble then.

Our fanbase weren't exactly that optimistic when we signed Zinchenko and Jesus but both of them that season proved they were the right players to elevate us.

Surely what got United into the position they are right now was spending hideous sums of money on young players who were nowhere ready. They're the world's biggest cautionary tale when it comes to putting all your eggs in the youth talent basket. What did Højlund, Zirkzee and Anthony cost all in all - 220 million or so?

Signing players for big money who weren't good enough is my take, players who looked good in other leagues but not cut out for this league.

JazzG The money is definitely part of it but their best signing in the last decade is a guy who came from the lower leagues, and he wasn't too young. Their real decline started when they began to worry about value in players instead of actual output on the field. Woodward spoke several times of there being no link between a club's profitability and it's performances on the pitch, which sums United up perfectly. Their transfer policy was consciously designed to identify "big value" signings, the idea being that these players could always be sold on if they didn't work out due to being young. They have a torrid time shipping anyone off even on loan at the moment though.

Similar problem we had, these guy come in on high wages and play for a prestigious club, you literally can't even pay them to get them out of the door!

Klaus I don't think Man United have a transfer policy, they also spent 90m on Maguire, 70m on Casemiro, signed Varane and Ronaldo in the same window, spent a lot on Mount and Onana and brought in guys like Cavani, Eriksen, Amrabat and Jonny Evans on loans or frees. 'separate to any deal for eze' is spooky language. artetas tenure has a few of these near miss transfer that I'm thankful for e.g. the mudryks of the world. madueke is on the list for for me.

I think Ugarte is a good example of the type of business Man Utd have been doing. Anyone who watched him play could see he was not a very good player but he was great at tackling. Easy to make compelling YouTube videos about players who are good tacklers. I think when he first started for PSG he was great at breaking up play and fans love that shit. They love a player who get stuck in.

PSG probably couldn't believe their luck that a club was willing to pay almost the same as they paid for him and didn't think twice before selling. Comes to Man Utd and suddenly his flaws are obvious.

I really will be a tad disappointed if we end up with Madueke. He’s the least appealing of the wing options for me. I could see him doing well here but I don’t love his ego and imagine he would get unsettled quickly if he’s unable to crack the XI here.

I think he's a good player with decent upside but I just don't get why we'd be in for him.
