I can't see Palace agreeing to £50m. His release clause is £68m. I wonder if there is anyone we could offer as a make weight. Probably should have done this deal last season really. Can't see them taking Zinchenko or Jesus wages on. Nelson maybe but he's not worth £18m. Lokonga did ok for them but he's a bit of a crock. Don't think they'd want Vieira.

Qwiss He’s 27 years old, realistically his value isn’t going to get any higher so Palace aren’t in that strong a position to hold firm. I think between £50m-£60m a deal can be done.

If we're going to spend 50+ for Eze, why wouldnt we just spend another 15-20 and go for Rodrygo? He's barely played at the CWC, so something is going on there. Started first game, subbed after 65'.. Has not started another game, and was subbed in after 65 mins in another game. He has not featured at all in the other 2 games.

USArsenal That's right in line with the amount he usually plays. I think people are labouring under the misconception he's a key player for Madrid. He's a utility man that they plug holes in the team with.

Eh, last season, he started 2/3 of their La Liga games. This seems like its even less frequent than that. But to not even be subbed in, i dont know, seems like he should want to go somewhere that he WILL be a main player on his preferred side, which we could definitely offer.

He's been a regular starter for Real Madrid last season even if he's not been their key player. He's started nearly every game for them in the CL, for instance. The fact that he's not featured in the CWC is below trend.

He started 22 league games last season, so a little more than half, and played just a little more than half of the available minutes across five or six different positions. Typical utility man in my book. I wouldn't make too much of the fact that other players are ahead of him in the CWC.

Statistically maybe he should have gotten a few more minutes but it's not like they're going to suddenly build their game around him. It makes a lot more sense for Real to try and figure out where someone like Gonzalo Garcia will fit into the team next season, for instance.

Klaus disagree with this assessment on his use last season.

The reason Rodrygo didn't have more league games last season is because he wasn't in the squad towards the end of the season because he fell out with the club but he was regular in the first team prior to that even if they weren't building the team around him. You just have to see that he started 10 out 13 CL games to confirm that he's a regular in the first 11 in games that matter.

The fact that he's not playing in CWC is unusual - it's either the club now forcing him out or protecting him from injury in case there's a sale to be had or the player continuing the disagreement's he had towards the end of last season. He's definitely been singled out during this tournament. None of this, of course, means that he's interested in joining us - I suspect we're not at the top of his list even if he did move.

Also I don't get your point about him moving positions. 63% of his time was off the RW - that's partially the issue Rodrygo has. He wants to be either CF or LW which will never happen

He played the vast majority of his minutes on the right wing. Some on the left wing. And the occasional run out at CF. Seems standard enough for a winger really. Ultimately he was a key player for them last season.

Now all of that doesn't really matter because that was under Ancelotti. We don't really know what Alonso will want to do with him and he's not a marquee player like Vini, Mbappe and Bellingham that he'll be made use so there is a chance he could be out of favour. That said I agree with you that reading too much into the CWC is a mistake. Alonso is still figuring things out.

JazzG It's the last summer if Palace want any money for him too, and they need money right now. I think they're gonna squeeze as much out of the deal as they can but eventually Eze will leave and I think it will be for a lot less than what they're quoting at the moment. We might be able to send a player their way too, either or loan or on permanent transfer.

Palace might also be in financial trouble, if they don’t get European football they’re gonna be a bit shafted. Was mentioned by Con Harrison they’ll need to pay European bonuses to players but not get any European money.

Mirth Fair enough, I mostly watched a few Real games during the second half of last season but he certainly wasn't a regular then. I had a look at Whoscored and they confirm he's basically played everywhere except defensive midfield too. Why did he fall out with the club?

Rodrygo's basically been marginalised by Mbappe and Vinicius in terms of his role. Prior to Mbappe joining, Rodrygo had a more central role in the team (both in terms of position but also expectation). Following Mbappe joining, Rodrygo got shunted out to RW and essentially had to put in the leg work for Mbappe and Vinicius. It's partly why Bellingham's numbers took a hit at the start of the season too.

It all came to a head after Madrid got knocked out and it was clear that they weren't winning the league.
