Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert Saka and Havertz are both quite strong though. I think it would be easier to overlook Martinelli's lack of strength if his blistering pace came back. He looked more explosive at the end of the year so I'm hoping he will continue to look rapid in preseason.

RowJimmy strongly disagree. The gap between Jesus/Havertz and Gyokeres is much bigger than the gap between Martinelli/Trossard and Rodrygo. The idea of going into next season with only Havertz at CF is disgusting.

lorddulaarsenal I don't think he'd go for a price that would be worth it to us. I think he's positionally a bit suspect and would need a lot of coaching.

Sicario2 I think it's clear that he will stay this season and see how it goes. It will go bad, and he will move next summer.

Good if he has decided to stay am glad it is done in the middle of June rather than us chasing him into August, there are other good options out there so we move on.

Vast amount of money, but it doesn't pay to care too much about margins of €10–20m on deals of this scale. In many cases we earn back that kind of difference on the benefits of locking things up with a big deal, then having the time and freedom to properly triage the options for other transfers.

Doc again, where are the other strikers in the league? Why aren't they all scoring in buckets. Gyokeres scored 39. The next highest goal tally? 19. That's a full 20 goals difference.

The opta grading of leagues implies that the quality of the MLS is below that of the Portuguese league. Why isn't Messi out here scoring 50 per season? Ronaldo managed 25 this past season at Al Nassr, which is much weaker than the Portugal premier league.

Gyokeres consistently scores goals at both international level and in the champions league. If his touch is as bad as you say, and he is only able to dominate due to his physicality per Pepe, he shouldn't be able to replicate in other competitions, right? Now we are talking about ponying up close to 100mill for Sesko, and folks seem to think that is cool. On the back of a 13 goal season (Sesko averages about 14 league goals a season in the past 3 seasons), in a league that whilst admittedly is stronger than Portugal, is significantly weaker than the Premier league.

I mean, make it make sense.

Not sure really the point you're making here...isn't it obvious why neither player is playing the Primeira Liga?

Fair enough. Hojlund scored a similar amount of goals the season before in the CL (5) in fewer games. And looking at Gyokeres' scoring record at international level, all but two goals (one against Portugal and one against Belgium) are against some pretty average/poor teams. So for me, whilst relevant, those stats don't really alleviate my concerns.

100m euros is very much the top-end and I don't think he'll go for that. And I don't honestly think anyone believes that's 'cool'. It is however the market we're in, factoring the potential that a lot of experts believe he has. Is it a gamble? Absolutely, and I can only speak for myself but I suspect most that favour Sesko also believe that. However, Gyokeres is also a gamble but with next to no upside if he fails (Sesko at least has age on his side).

flobaba Its not that deep.. I think he is a decent player who will get us goals, but lacks significantly in other areas I mentioned.. I dont have stats to back up my opinion about his touch, the videos are out there and people can judge for themselves... I happen to think that his defincies are in areas where I think the team is already lacking.. If we signed Rodriygo and the next B.Silva as an 8 Id maybe be more optamistic about this.

If people think the trade off is worth it, or maybe by the sounds of it you dont even see a trade off and/or think he will continue anywhere near his 1:1 rate in the prem (which I find insane) because he scored 6 goals in the champions league... then fine, I dont.

We saw something similar with City when they signed Haaland (different player I know) which many would argue did work out.. but i don't think a) he will be anywhere near that productive and b) our technical level is not as good as City's was to absorb that trade off...

Sesko isn't worth 100m.. whatever his price is though is going on the idea that he will pop off in the next 2 years.. Both are far from ideal looking at where we are at...
