I'm not really that excited about this transfer personally and I'm not really someone who is too interested in what someone did elsewhere. I'll reserve judgment should he join to what he does here.

But my main thing is I don't believe this is the business that's going to take us towards winning the big honours, this doesn't make us better in relation to that goal so that's why I feel it's pretty 🤷🏻‍♂️. I want to see us getting the players in the positions where we do need to upgrade that's where the big differences can be made.

It's funny seeing all the emotional rollercoaster in the thread of this fell through I'd be disappointed in terms of closing out deals but I don't feel he's fatal to what we want to achieve so it's not my focus for the transfers.

awooga83 I get that it doesn't feel the most exciting signing versus bringing in an attacker, particularly given the latter is where there is a glaring and immediate need. But that doesn't mean this won't be a transformative signing if it makes us operate more effectively in the engine room; I'm talking quicker transitions in particular.

It's not exactly analogous but if I look back on signing someone like Gilberto, he wasn't the signing we all got excited about but I think we'd all agree his impact was significant given his contribution to making those around him better able to do their job. That's what I'm hoping for with Zubimendi.

awooga83 we absolutely need a new high quality 6 with jorginho leaving. reducing the reliance on partey to a squad role will help us immensely

awooga83 honestly it feels like a Rice level signing to me. Just less hype because he's not English and not at a major European side already.

awooga83 A problem we have is our control of games isn't as strong as it needs to be, he'll definitely help in that aspect. Also we don't get the ball up the pitch quick enough, take too long with it whereas with Zubimendi he will definitely look to get it moving through the lines quicker. Moving it quicker is key for us as we take way too long getting the ball high up the pitch.

He's not aesthetically pleasing or easy on the eye like Partey but his decision making is better and quicker. Also look at the tweet below, he is seen as defensively reliable which Partey has got a bit ropey with as his legs are going. He isn't a pure 6 like some may think, more a hybrid 6/8. Think he'd work well in a double pivot with Rice.

Don Pacifico yeah that's fair and to be clear I'm not saying that he won't make a difference I just don't think he'd the difference between falling short and winning the big trophies where as I do think the forwards will be that difference(if we get them right)

Qwiss again that's fair but rice still wasn't enough for a title. I just feel the forwards are the big area. If we do this deal and fall short in forwards I don't think we would be in a different place really from last season. Whereas the other way around I think we could get a forward without Zubimendi and potentially win a title. But that's just my view on what I think is lacking and the priority.

awooga83 oh yeah we absolutely need to add a couple of players to the front line this summer and at least one has to be a difference maker who's ready to go at the start of next season.

We definitely need a striker - that’s given - but Arteta’s also obsessed with his control ball and will limit the number of players we commit forward unless he’s confident we won’t lose control of the game. Not only do we need a striker but we also need to actively commit more attackers into the box

Old bean I'd see your point here if we had been looking to bring in Salah (Madrid signed Mbappé where they already had Vinicius Junior …)

Next season has to be about space. If signing Zubimendi allows Ødegaard's average position to move 5–10 yards north, and a new elite attacking threat allows opposition defences to be dragged 10 yards further apart east-west on average, then one way or another Arsenal will score 10–20 goals more over the league season.

Probably the best we have ever looked under Arteta. Dominate in attack and snuffed everything out defensively as well.

This guy has performed at the highest level and he's the best replacement we could have signed for Partey. We need to make another two signings of his level for the attack and we can start cooking.

Qwiss Definitely isn't. Good players, good coaching. Health. We can improve in all 3 but I think health is still our single biggest lever. It's not just about player availability but also about their ability to create automatisms

More good players = health crises being a non-factor.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert clearly it helps to have more strong players who can rotate. but the core of this squad when healthy reeled out 49 of 57 points to close out the season just 12-18 months ago. the big difference for me is that they have been injured and/or unfit since. adding more strong players will give the team more resilience, but i really believe we have an exceptionally strong core. just needs a bit more resilience.

There is no amount of good players on any team - including PSG and CIty - that would have overcome our injury record last year.

Claudius At some point you have to accept that injuries are part of a normal season. We had a few more than usual this season but even before the injury crisis we weren't on top and weren't playing like a team that was set to catch Liverpool. The way people talk you'd think we were out ahead and got caught because of the injuries.

Claudius adding more strong players will give the team more resilience, but i really believe we have an exceptionally strong core.

We have a fairly fit and robust core. Saka, Timber and Ødegaard are our current big worries as far as injury and level. Getting Partey out of the road should be a massive risk mitigation. White and Havertz may not be guaranteed first choice, both are also a risk but a lesser risk. Then there are our perma-crocks such as Tomiyasu and Jesus.

Where we might end up in last season's horrible territory would be if Zubimendi did his ACL training over-zealously in preseason. We do need to let the man adapt to England a bit.
