Don't feel bad. There are guys starting for us now that are more than 30 years younger than me. I am 'almost' 20 years older than our oldest player. (Well, 18 years if you use Jorginho).

tazmania -- doubt we see it this year unless we're well off 1st place.

He'll continue to ease in Califori to rest MLS, and we will see Merino/Jorginho resting Partey/Rice.

But for MLS, and our inverted fullbacks, the starting position (RB/LB) is just the surface level position. MLS has been playing in (the) midfield for decent stretches of the game, and looked great already 🙂

His presence right now is pushing timber into a more conventional FB role. He's the guy inverting now, and getting forward.

He’s playing this position the way it should be played. He’s doing all the nice stuff Zinchenko was doing at his peak, but with the addition of ability to drive with the ball and recovery pace and strength. This is the prototype for inverting fullback.

Arteta mentioned that he wants to see more goal threat from his fullbacks in his interview. So he’s happy to have MLS and Califori scoring

Partey has been one of our players of the season. Our midfield was unstoppable Sunday. Having MLS able to support from LB and give us numbers in midfield is great.

Love his physicality.

JazzG it makes sense. You are talking about having a 17 year old in the changing room with adults. There has to be a line somewhere.

They have been teammates since U9s, Arsenal through and through. Wonder how do the likes of Heaven or Obi Martin see their progression and think "right, time to move to Man Utd to maximise my career potential".

I also chuckle at the thought of Saka being the senior player helping them integrate in the first team. He is still young himself, but also the perfect role model to look up to.

I know what you mean, but I guess - historically speaking - it is very unlikely Obi Martin was ever going to be "the guy" up top for Arsenal. And Heaven probably looked at Saliba and Gabriel (and the quality of their back ups and thought "Nahhhhhhh".

Equally, I suppose it is possible that they just had piles of cash thrown at them.

I think that has happened here as well, when you are that young and another top club comes in and offers big wages it is hard to turn it down. Nwaneri we had to fight really hard for, all the top clubs were circling around him. What Arteta has shown though is with Saka, and now MLS + Nwaneri there is a path into the first team squad and first XI. Simply put you need to be absolutely top drawer and some of these players will go on and have good careers but the harsh reality some of them aren't cut out for it.

Heaven and Chido were also only in the academy for 2-3 years. Think the view from the club is it's harder to retain players who join the academy later in their development (ie. length of stay builds a stronger attachment to the club).

Roy Keane did that tackle because Alfie Haaland accused him of diving and screamed at him while he lay on the floor after he tore his ACL. Hardly the same as mocking someone's celebration. MLS was only giving some back after Haaland got a bit mouthy with him in the previous fixture.

Wonder what possible connection there could be between these phenomena:

Arsenal having the largest online fan following in football
Negative engagement driving advertising profit for content producers
Football content more and more frequently focusing on controversy
More and more aspects of football on and off the pitch becoming the material for controversy
PGMOL referees, leadership and fellow travellers becoming part time content producers
PGMOL making an increasing number of controversial decisions against Arsenal
Some gammon online implying it might be proportionate for an 18 year old to get his leg broken for a bit of banter

Not worried about a nutter stabling MLS. My bigger concern is the media this year has been flooded with Arsenal negativity. We complain about every referee decision, we are masters of the dark arts, we over celebrate, Arteta is over-excitable, we surround the referee. None of these are remotely justified but the net effect will be to keep referees on edge whenever they see us. Even if they try their best to be even handed. It’s those pompous southern cheats again

RocktheCasbah yeah agree with pretty much all of that. Even in terms of womens football we have people like Alan Brazil telling women presenters to shut because "no one cares about womens football" and we have an average 20k at our womens matches.

Sometimes this is framed as a north vs south thing but Arsenal represent why a lot of northerns, etc hate the south and London in particular.

That's my observation anyway as an outsider.
