Love this guy and his arrogance. Fucking love it.

If it was Tommy Tuchel this guy will be straight into my England team.

Dunno what it was like in the ground but the crowd went mental for that one.

The thing that really impressed me was how switched on he is defensively (which is crucial if he had any long term future as a LB). The number of times I mistook him for Timber when he first started playing LB. He's so good at protecting the ball and putting himself between man and ball. The way he defended the back post a couple of times was so impressive.

His goal really changed the game. Before that the players and the crowd were all nervous and unsure. Then MLS stepped up and decided to finish them off. Liberated the entire stadium and lifted a ton of pressure off the team. Also wrecked the City morale and ensured there wasn't going to be a comeback.

We've had this done to us so many times over the last 5-10 years. Just when we're getting back into the game, someone pops up with a decisive goal that completely deflates the team.

    Did better than Saliba.

Eh, Saliba had one brain fart, and unfortunately Haaland scored, but thought he (and all the defenders) pretty much nullified him the rest of the game.

I feel more circumspect about Nwaneri. Attitude coupled with talent and sheer fighting power make MLS, who is literally half my age, a bona fide personal hero.

      Coombs literally half my age

I can remember thinking it was ridiculous Fabregas, the same age as me (I'm a few months older), was starting for us while I was in my 2nd to last year of school. Certainly feeling old now there are guys starting for us who are over 20 years younger than me.

Physically looks ready as well, sometimes a clubs injuries can be a blessing in disguise. Having so many of our defenders out has given him a chance and to step up and he has stepped up.

Don't feel bad. There are guys starting for us now that are more than 30 years younger than me. I am 'almost' 20 years older than our oldest player. (Well, 18 years if you use Jorginho).

Ugh, time to get the cane out. 😃

When will Arteta play him in midfield? He's clearly going through the Saka path and will boss our midfield soon

naz -- doubt we see it this year unless we're well off 1st place.

He'll continue to ease in Califori to rest MLS, and we will see Merino/Jorginho resting Partey/Rice.

But for MLS, and our inverted fullbacks, the starting position (RB/LB) is just the surface level position. MLS has been playing in (the) midfield for decent stretches of the game, and looked great already 🙂

banduan Unreal player. Gonna be benching Ricky next season.

This season you could argue it's only cos of managing the injury.

His presence right now is pushing timber into a more conventional FB role. He's the guy inverting now, and getting forward.

He’s playing this position the way it should be played. He’s doing all the nice stuff Zinchenko was doing at his peak, but with the addition of ability to drive with the ball and recovery pace and strength. This is the prototype for inverting fullback.

Arteta mentioned that he wants to see more goal threat from his fullbacks in his interview. So he’s happy to have MLS and Califori scoring

I was thinking of swapping Partey out and bringing in Cala at LB
