tazmania so last season we consistently looked tougher, faster than opponents. First to balls, strong in swirls and ground duels. All that physicality is gone. We just look completely unfit, unable to press and be combative. It struck me in first half that we were completely outhustled by these guys.

Gurgen this. I hate how comfortable we are slipping into the defensive structure, in games where, in my opinion we should be harassing and pressing hard. Newcastle barely offered a threat yet there we were, 11 behind the ball. Maintaining shape.

For me that was 20/21 and parts of 22/23 Arteta ball, but I get your point. It's all too safe and lacking in ideas. Even with Odegaard, I doubt we'd have won this game going by our performances vs Newcastle over the last 3 or so years.

Pound for pound, this has to be in the top three of Arteta's worst matches. Abysmal in every area. We are paying for the transfer window. Feels like we should have done a Liverpool and not bought certain players for the sake of having extra bodies.

Needed a younger and better version of Jorginho, got an older and worse version of Rice. Needed a hefty upgrade on Martinelli or Trossard and got an ageing has-been instead.

And Zinchenko and Jesus cannot come on, ever. They're barely Championship level.

Watching the Brighton game. Their approach is so aggressive/dangerous and at the same time easy on the eye.

We clearly have massive issues but folks calling out teams like Brighton as examples of how we are lacking reminds me of early last season when Spurs were apparently so much more inspiring than us at this time of the season.

It's another performance where I'm saying "even I'm not going to try and sugar coat how bad that was". It's a worrying trend to be falling into at the top of a very tricky week. Arteta's decision to sacrifice the silk of a Smith Rowe for the more attritional Merino is starting to remind this Arsenal fan of the summer we sold Rocky and bought John Jensen.

Not officially worried yet, but much more of this and I will be.

Claudius because a team that plays more progressive than us with worse players than us won't necessarily get more goals than us. In fact, that they have the same amount of goals with far inferior players should tell you exactly that they are more progressive, not the opposite.

Meatwad even if you reduced it to that, those are outcomes for sustained offensive pressure. What was striking last weekend was how few set pieces we earned.
Hope White is fit and we can at least stabilise our lineups so we can find fitness and rhythm
