Why is it a testament to how poor the market is that these strikers didn't do well when they were younger? Not sure what the relevance is.
QuincyAbeyie It's really a terrible argument. Harry Kane was barely scoring any goals at the age of 23 on loan to some no mark championship club for 4 years in a row. Strikers peak differently and when they come good, people sign them.
QuincyAbeyie Wenger tried to sign Vardy, he was playing Conference football at 23. He was a brilliant PL striker and now at 37 has scored as many as our top scorer this season. Development isn't the same for everyone.

Fake news - Harry Kane was 6th in the rankings for highest goals scored in the PL by a player aged 23.
You completely missed the point and you're also arguing a strawman. I'm only talking about strikers and I already said I would take Gyokeres despite the history. The point is that we're in the middle of the worst striker era in living memory.
So when people criticise the club for not signing a striker, they are completely ignorant of the pool of strikers that exists. I'm not criticising those players or saying they won't be successful, I'm pointing out that they are far from being strikers with proven track records and that's the pool of strikers we're looking at.
daredevil some of the players we signed is also far from having proven track records. Why were they judged differently?
Why is it that when we sign defenders goalies midfielders they are immune to such crucification? Case in point the goalie pool is also horrendously bad these days, didn't stop us from splashing big twice within 2 years.
It’s says a lot that in an environment where players are harbouring immature talent like Hojlund and Zirkzee, that these guys were all still wondering around 2nd tier teams and leagues into their mid 20s. It doesn’t take away from their future prospects, but it does show their trajectory relative to other big name talents. @daredevil is just pointing this out.
What are you talking about? They aren't judged differently.
Ramsdale, Raya, White, Zinchenko, Jesus, Jorginho, Sterling, Havertz....they all had their critics from the first moment we were linked with them.
daredevil Rice, Merino, Odegaard. All arrived to criticism.
The Edu Defense League will demand that we "name a striker we could have signed", and when dozens are named, they grasp at straws to claim that said strikers wouldn't have been any good anyway. All while simultaneously claiming that nobody could have known that Calafiori would be injury prone when everyone and their dead grandmothers were afraid he would be due to having a well-documented, serious knee injury.
It was a shit summer. Accept it!
Yeah...I don't think anyone claimed that about Calafiori.
daredevil his injuries have been described as "freak", which is a term used to suggest they couldn't be predicted.
