This is a bit like Wenger's and even my dream at the time to partner Henry with Anelka. Sounds incredible, but they offer similar qualities and you need players who complement each other, rather than offering the same skills which is the problem with Vini and Mbappe.

QuincyAbeyie I wondered why he didn’t look at Arsenal or Liverpool. They made a lot more sense from a fit perspective than Real. Of course, for a guy at 25 who’s wasted too many years at PSG, Real Madrid will always be more alluring. But it felt like a transfer driven more by ego and concepts of the ideal than reason.

There's absolutely no reason why they wouldn't. From the strikers that Claudius listed, could we have signed any of them? The answer is an obvious no. There's not a whole host of strikers around in the world at the moment.

I'd take Duran, Openda and Isak, but we're talking about one guy who doesn't start for a PL side, another who is 1-in-2 in Germany and another who has a slightly better injury record than Jesus.

I would take Gyokeres, but it's a testament to how poor the market is that we're talking about a player who was playing Championship football at 23. Guirassy by 25 had scored 20 goals in 80 games in.....France. Marmoush by 23 had scored 7 in 21 in Bundesliga.2 and then 3 in 21 in the Bundesliga in the following season.

This is the pedigree and track record of strikers that people are talking about.
