We offered Ramsdale a contract in March 2023. He signed in May.
By June 2023, David Raya was still complaining that Brentford were making it hard for him to move with their £40m valuation and he wanted to go to a big team, including having agreed terms with Spurs.
We signed Raya July 2023.
Clearly, we’d always wanted Raya. He was just not available, and then Brentord changed their stance and we struck. The right thing in this context, is to go after the player you really want, and then deal with consequences later. We should do that with every position.
