We should have been able to sell an England international that had great reputation for far higher but the bidding war never came, decent clubs like Newcastle was never interested and we end up being able to only sell to bottom clubs so I would say beggars can't be choosers, decent fee

Clrnc i don't know about decent. We got him for 25, made him a starter, he was in the team of the season in the PL in 2022-2023, in the England squad, but still took a hit on him

And to get the kid from Espanyol, we have to pay the RC of 35...
Edit: remembered his salary, nevermind, it is a decent deal.

Perspectives. I'm ecstatic with that. It's great to get him off the books and it'll be great to see him playing again. Didn't think we'd crack £20m and this, finally, sets to rest a lot of my concerns about how it was all handled a year ago.

Poor business but that's the situation we got ourselves into.

This is a good deal. This season there isn’t a strong market for goalkeepers. Ideally we would’ve had competition amongst the top 10 crew for his services, but they are all set. So this is a really good fee in the context. Edu has fetched some £75m from 3 marginal players last season. Really exceptional summer from him.

Let’s not jump the gun. His summer and our transfer window will be judged in circa 50 hours time. No attacker signing and no matter how many players we sold for good price it would be a max 6 for me.

Claudius yeah, given the worries some had on here about getting any sort of fee at all, to be close to getting our initial outlay back after the season he's just sat out is nothing to complain about imo.

How much is this other keeper likely to cost us? Pretty sure the release clause stuff is fake news.

This is a good deal? We wanted 50m in June, he cost us a minimum of £24m. Calling this a "good deal" is taking the piss.

Qwiss I think there's a part A and B to it. Overall giving Ramsdale that contract in Feb 2023 was a mistake.

However, considering he's on 120k and the GK market is not as lucrative as that of an outfield player, £25m is pretty good - puts this in the top 15-20 deals ever for a GK

£50m would make him the 3rd most expensive keeper in PL history or thereabouts, which would be pretty odd for someone who’s a backup going to arguably the worst team in the league.

A players value is dictated by demand, it’s simple economics. You can set the price for players at whatever you want, doesn’t mean others are going to take it. If it was such a great deal, teams like Wolves wouldn’t be walking away at what you consider a bargain for the buyer.

Mirth it's not £25 though, it's £18m and some maybes. Same as we paid £24m for him and some maybes. We probably paid more after cl qualification.

I don't think selling a keeper who was excellent for us and was pushing hard for England number 1 12 months ago for £18m is good business like people are claiming.

Mirth the two things aren't mutually exclusive though. Yes, there is context beyond our control that has made it harder for us to sell him but Edu/Arteta have to shoulder some blame for also making decisions that have precipitated a difficult sale.

I don't think £50m was ever realistic and would have valued him nearer £30-35m; to not even have a guaranteed £20m coming in is disappointing.

it's a mediocre deal. losing money on an england international keeper at his age is pretty ordinary however you slice it. feels like we played poker all summer and didn't get the deal we wanted so we've panic sold before it's too late

Joan Garcia will reportedly cost 15-20m and the deal is already in place.

Gazza M a player everybody knows we want to get rid of, at a time when top teams have an abundance of goalkeepers, and money is generally tight. We got what he’s worth basically. Would you go into the market today with the current goalie supply / demand actuation and go pay the £35m or £50m prices that people are mentioning?
