feels like foden is a pass ans move player, and england aren't a pass and move team that plays between the lines well, so he's always going to struggle

Thing about Kane is while the media moan about it he loves dropping deep and he is an excellent passer of the ball. When you have someone like Bellingham behind you who is superb at getting forward ahead of the CF then surely that kind of partnership should work? Like you say problem is Foden is also there which means Kane isn't dropping deep and I think that harms the dynamics of the team.

Wharton would definitely be an interesting selection. I've seen people on twitter compare him to Xhaka.

Qwiss I think thats spot on and its why I'd put Gordon in instead. He's not as big a star, not even as good a player but he will do similar on the left with what Saka and Bowen did on the right. Did Foden play a single cross all night? A through ball? A pass that wasn't straight back into midfield? He was completely ineffective. England can't afford to have Foden and Kane both hanging around waiting for a chance to come.

I agree and I think this is why they'll miss someone like Rashford as well, not in great form but his profile fits the LW better than most in the England squad.

Despite the negativity, there's nothing wrong with winning a tight opening game 1-0 which is all you really need to do. I suspect there are already a few teams in the tournament who'd take it.
There's still time to work out better midfield combinations etc.

Of course there are but those teams don't have realistic aspirations to win it. Germany and Spain have come out all guns blazing.

Like I said England should win this group in 3rd gear and it gives Southgate a chance to fix his issues but that doesn't mean there are no issues.

Another hilarious moment was Rio asking Cesc about Bellingham. I can't remember exactly what he said but was basically asking if he had seen a young player who can control a game like Bellingham. Firstly does this dimwit forget he played with a young Messi and even worse is that does he not remember that Fabregas was THAT young player once....

Burnwinter Pretty much exactly how we called it. Foden relies on a system that hands him juicy opportunities, Saka is used to playing under siege.

Did not watch the match (2am) but watched the extended highlights … looked like the biggest issue for England was the midfield–forward link and limited chance creation. Pickford doesn't impress me and he looked absolutely relieved at the final whistle.

Yup. Been saying this about the guy. It doesn’t take away from the fact that he has elite movement and ball striking. But neutrals need the ability to differentiate player effects and team effects when evaluating talents.

And I have to say, the fact that Arteta and Edu wanted to pay 60 million or whatever it was for Mudryk....I don't know if I will ever let that slide. The guy is not a real player, not a profesional football player, he can run and nothing else. I can go now in the park near my home and find 5-6 people with better technical ability then him. He simply cannot control a football, nor pass, nor shoot, he looks shocked every time the ball gets to him. And his football IQ is the same of that of the post or corner flag. Just amazing what happened there
