hes broken the premier league single season record. he scored 5 goals in a CL knockout match. he has 90 goals in 98 appearances for citeh. like, what are we arguing here? if you asked 100 man city fans if they'd be better off with or without haaland, how many do you think would say without?

mdgoonah41 I only know two City fans personally so I can only speak to what they have told me but both have said they would prefer a more well rounded striker in their team and that he is a non-factor against the current Arsenal team and against the biggest UCL clubs they face, something I definitely agree with. The two goals he scored against us were both when Saliba was out I believe. I also think there's a point to be made that Haaland with KDB is a completely different animal than Haaland without KDB. The man scores a ton of goals- can't argue with that. But when against close to equal opposition (something they don't face often in fairness!), they are often playing 10 v 11 for long portions of the game due to his inability to impact the game outside of his finishing in the box. I know I am losing the plot here with this thread so I'll stop arguing this now but I do not want a pure finisher as a 9 - I want someone far more rounded like Isak and I'd be willing to wait to get them.

samthegooner It's a bit like peak Liverpool from a few years ago. They had Bobby Firmino as their no. 9 but most goals came from Salah and Mane. The traditional "jut scores goals" number 9 hasn't been a big thing at top clubs for a while now hey.

Nobody reputable is reporting the Gyokeres rumors. It seems we're waiting on Merino and the Nketiah/Nelson sales to figure out how much money we have to play with. I think we'll bring in another player but remains to be seen whether it's a more mid-career player (like Neto, Eze) or a prospect.

I think we're overrating our players a bit, Martinelli isn't as good as peak Mane, Saka isn't as good as peak Salah and Kai isn't as good as peak Firminho so we can't rely on that same formula for productivity that Liverpool did. We need a more traditional goalscorer through the middle to take us up a level.

TambourineMan its also a completely different way of playing to our wingers. Salah and Mane never had to do as much defensive and build up work as our wingers. You can't recreate that sort of attacking threat and ask your wingers to do much more general work in the team.

He'd be great, but maybe in a year or two. Tough balance hey because you don't really want to pay 100m in 2-3 years when / if he's elite, but if you get him now he would still be 50-60m or more, and he's probably a bit too raw still to take us the final step above City.
