With Onana it really depends on the price, I'm fairly sure given his age and profile we'd be able to sell him on for a decent fee even if it doesn't work out so we just need to make sure we don't overcommit on the initial outlay. At worst he seems like a solid squad player with Premier league experience - if he's replacing Elneny's role in the squad I'm all for it.

However if he's penciled in for the first 11 then it's a definite no.

He was awful against Slovakia, except on corners. Elneny is better based on that showing.

samthegooner Rices technical level is ok. We don't need another mid who's technical level is ok, we need someone who's technically on Jorginhos level but offers a bit more as well.

Get Bruno. Not concerned about price. He’s incredible on defense. And going forward he’s a great line breaking passer, and comfortable on the ball - able to protect and dribble. He’s also durable.

Claudius exactly. Just drop the £100m on him. Least risky signing we could make. Our midfield would be incredible. Also very worried City will get him.

Qwiss 100%. Some of the other names out there...Onana for 40, 50. Nah, like you said, pay up but you know the guy would kill it here. Also he is a prick, we are a strong team now, imagine a prick like him in there....I would love it. Bruno - Rice - Odegaard, it's the best midfield in the league.

Don't think we can trigger the clause because it would add spending to the 23-24 accounts, and we're tapped out for that year – we've even had to stretch the Raya transfer into the 24-25 books. Not totally sure on the details though.

CPM Our financial year ends in May so we're already in 24/25 from an accounting perspective. Not sure if there are separate requirements to submit accounts for the year ending June (none as far as I am aware).

Makes sense, though you'd assume/hope we are in the market for another 8 as well given Partey is on the way out and Havertz seems to be no longer regarded as an 8 for us.

Don Pacifico yeah, think this could be it but may depend on how invested we are in Sesko. As @Panda says, we coule just reallocate the funds elsewhere in the forward line and keep our powder dry to pay the release clause next summer (or whatever).

So listening to Arseblog pod, Gunnerblog seems to think we won't go in for a Sesko alternative and we'll allocate funds elsewhere. He positions it as us seeing a cost-effective opportunity with Sesko's release clause (but that door has obviously now closed).

... we also need to replace Nelson. Best to target someone who can play both sides and challenge Martinelli, because I can't imagine many players will want to be understudy to Saka, but will we have the funds to target a really high class winger this summer as well?

If we offload Nelson, ESR and Eddie those will up the amount we have available significantly as they are home grown players.

JazzG well true but with the costs of new signings spread across the duration of the player's contract, we need to be sure we can continue to afford them in future windows as well.

I'd be fine with Onana as long as he was the second midfielder we were bringing in as a duel winning development piece. There's a lot of raw talent there that I think Arteta could mold into a monstrous player but I don't want to pin our hopes to him. I said it in the other thread but I really love the idea of bringing in a more technical CM alongside Onana, especially if we are able to shift Partey. Personally, I love Neves from Benfica but he's also very young. Guimaraes would be the safer option and a good one at that but I think Neves's ceiling combined with his age fitting into the lower range of our squad would be the better move. Of course none of this would be cheap.

Pepe LeFrits True but I don't think we need to spend mega money.

Last season we spent £100m on Rice, £65m on Havertz and £45m on Timber. That is £210m and if we pushed our total spend to £250m and then moved on players like ESR, Eddie, Nelson & Tierney I think that would be comfortable with what we could afford.
