If we wanted a "natural left back" to hug the touchline we'd bring Tierney back. Which is not going to happen.

To be fair you could go for one that’s technically a lot better, like Marcelo or Dani Alves, that essentially acts as a winger. In theory that would enable you to play someone like Rice as an 8/6 and reduce the attacking burden on him.

I think the team could evolve in unpredictable ways.

RowJimmy The problem with Tierney is that he isn’t good enough physically or technically, not necessarily his style per se.

We don’t need to get in the likes of Marcelo or Alphonso Davies necessarily, but it would be nice to get someone comfortable enough on the left to do what White does at right back, with overlaps, crosses, and cutbacks. It’s awkward for the likes of Timber and Tomiyasu to do that as right-footed players playing LB.

I expect we'll mostly look for internal improvement - that is, for the players we already have to play better.
Other than the expiring contracts, I think we'll let Ramsdale go if he finds a good place (with a good fee), we'll look to sell Partey to whoever will take him, and let 2 of Eddie, Reiss, Emile, and Fabio leave, again depending on their desire and fee.
I hope we keep Emile. It's important to have actual academy products. Nwaneri fills one of those spots.
That means we're looking for:
backup GK - no idea
DLP - Bruno G seems most likely to me, but I'd love to see us try to bring in FDJ
Versatile attacking player - make a late run with the Walmart bags at Mbappe, whose mother must not be happy with what Madrid are offering. Otherwise maybe keep the powder dry for Wirtz.
And I think that's it. 3 new players max. Quality rather than quantity.

I think having a more traditional attacking left back would be useful in a bunch of scenarios, Havertz playing as a narrow box crashing left wing forward being one.

RowJimmy The more traditional fullback elements of White’s game are important to how we play, even if it’s just one of multiple options. Given that’s the case I don’t see why Arteta wouldn’t want those capabilities on the left as well.

If we are going to go in for a traditional fullback, it would have to be for someone spectacular like Nuno Mendes or Balde to me. Personally I think we should just continue to lean into the hybrid fullbacks since I believe Timber is going to be an absolute revelation next year.

It shows how we are progressing though, if the players can't keep up then they need to be moved aside.

I think I am done with Partey too, the way Onana owned him was very telling. He is not up for it anymore

The signs were there last season, that game away at Man City last season he looked like he had lead in his boots. Contrast to this season where Rice was on his skates the City players couldn't find a solution.

It is a shame in hindsight we didn't shift him last season and bring in another player. We need to make sure we either get a ready made player in FDJ or get a shit hot talent like Neves.

Have said though we might need another CM, another physical player because apart from Rice we don't have any legs in midfield.
