Martinelli was awful yesterday, and has struggled all season. He is a counter weapon and I would be priming him for the away leg as our main outlet to expose the space in behind, but he shouldn't have started yesterday.

QuincyAbeyie fair but agree with the spirit comment. I still think Saka was looking at the penalty or the contact being the outcome of what he was doing. I don't like that wherever it is but accept that's modern football so the point it could be given and does get awarded is fine. I just don't like that I think it's a symptom of the professional game because in the purest form when you are playing you are doing everything to finish the chance.

If it's given I wouldn't rail against it I just mean for me it's trying to manufacture the penalty and I don't really agree with those in any situations so if the ref goes against it I feel that's fair in the moment given I had the same single view at that time. What VAR could or couldn't do is another factor.

What an experience this must have been for the team btw. You can see it was a big moment for them and their career. Even someone like Rice who’s older and considered a leader, this is new to him.

I actually think for the most part they didn’t do themselves a disservice. A few mistakes from nerves can happen, but they at least tried to play with some personality and found their way back into the game.

goon this is exactly it. There's some short memories on here, for anyone who's watched the CL for the past 20 years should know how much experience plays a role.

Man City won a CL after how many years of trying? They struggled plenty of times to get out of the quarter finals. The same is true of PSG. Plus 10 years ago Real Madrid used to get memed because they couldn't get past the round of 16 for a while.

Claudius exactly. I've seen top strikers fail to score those. Agree o the shots too, the broadcast kept cutting to the other game and all I could think was "we don't even take those shots" while were dancing around their box time after time. We have to learn you can't carve out perfect chances vs Bayern, Real, etc the way you can vs Luton or Sheff Utd

Qwiss exactly what I thought. We score similar goals time and time again and it's mostly well construed but the Valverde goal was a piece of innovation and caught City out completely with a first time volley.

Ancelotti is old school but his methods still encourage alot of creativity

Jesus doesn't have pausa, he has stoppa. He pauses and gets stuck before he presses play again.

Bayern are still a top team technically - it’s only really Dier that let’s them down on that front

On the plus side, I believe we held Bayern to their lowest shots and shots on target this season. So the team deserves some praise for that. That Bayern front 4 is as stacked as any we’ve seen this year. Bloody Goretzka looks like he chows down anabolic steroids for breakfast. And little has been said about Neuer’s skill at the start of their second goal. Just ball juggling like it’s Sunday morning. Quality team. We’ve done well, hopefully the experience humanised them and will make the second leg easier

I think the criticism of Rice is harsh. I think he was handicapped massively by his yellow card.

Don’t forget, Rice has played the last two seasons in Europe, albeit in lesser competitions. He still managed to lift a European trophy so he’s not a complete novice.

If anyone can learn CL football it will be him. You do NOT drop effectively your spiritual leader for this game.

He's definitely one that will reflect and improve in the next week you'd think. He's looking a bit spent physically with the fixtures we're playing, but he can't be dropped.

Sicario2 he was similar in the ECL last season. Paqueta was the standout mid in that run and even Coufal was better in the final. As we've seen all season Rice has technical weaknesses but the rest of his game is so good it's worth balancing them. You just need to push the balance to the more technical side in the CL. Still room for Rice but not Rice and Havertz.

I think we have more room to our ceiling than them on the basis of that game. Just need to step it up

I think the challenge is away from home we aren't great in Europe and in the tougher games in the league we are usually drawing them but not as great at going out and getting the win. So it's not something we like to do in those fixtures.

Yeah, unfortunately both have to avoid a yellow next week but can play with shackles off if we progress into the semi's when yellow cards reset.
