I did wonder going into this game about our temperament and unfortunately some of my suspicions were proven true. Just like the Porto game I think the occasion got to a few of the players. You can just sense that they looked a bit uneasy. I remember the same under Wenger's great team, domestically we'd be at ease and dominant and in the CL you felt like they were playing with lead in their boots.
At 1-0 up Ben White has to finish that chance, 2-0 up and I think we put them to the sword. Instead we have two complete brain dead moments and the rest of the game we are chasing. The first one you could just see Gabriel and Raya both panicked, Raya should not have come that far forward but Gabriel has to deal with that better, only has Kane near him. At that point you can sense in the team and crowd there is uncertainty. Second one Kiwior got done way too easily and then with Sane running you can see the panic. Kiwior rightly pulled at half time, type of game where Tomi would have been great. Kiwior really struggled in this game. Zinchenko was a brave move because of his defensive vulnerability but he at least got on the ball and gave us some control.
Think Rice struggled in his role as Bayern did well at shutting down the middle of the pitch. I think in these games he needs to be a No.6, we need to find a better solution in midfield in the summer.
As for the decisions. Kane should have been sent off, how blatant can you get? I think Gabriel was lucky not to give a penalty away but the ref actually showed some common sense, clearly there was miscommunication on the pitch and Gabriel didn't know play had resumed otherwise why the fuck would anyone pick a ball up like that? I think Saka incident was a penalty but the way he put his right leg out gave the ref enough doubt to say he was looking for it. However Neuer's leg moved out towards him so should have been given. I do wonder if Saka could have stayed on his feet
Also some of our fans were far too disrespectful about Bayern. They went into that game with Neuer, Davis, De Ligt. Kimmich, Goretzka, Gnabry, Musiala, Sane and Kane, that is a lot of top quality players. These are top drawer players and a fair few would get into our side. They'll be very pleased and fancy themselves in the second leg, we need to get ourselves together and go again. We have more than enough to go there and get a result, we need to play with less emotions though.
