Zinchenko will start. I suspect we tested our Bayern lineup on Saturday. Arteta has been reintegrating Jesus and Zinchenko, giving them more minutes as starters. They’ll have their work cut out for them with Sane and Kimmich on their flank, but should be a great battle.

I imagine Arteta will use Trossard and Martinelli similarly, bringing them on in second half to give us legs. And maybe the same with Partey for Jorginho, and Tomi for Zini

Rightly or wrongly (it's the latter for me) I suspect this is the case. Form has to count for something and forcing in favourites as soon as they regain fitness even though the guy covering the while time has been playing well is not something I think is good for morale.

It's similar to what happened last season with dropping Trossard for Jesus as soon as he was fit despite the former being in a rich vein of form in terms of assists.

I feel like playing Zinny and Jorginho for extended minutes against Brighton was a bit of a clue that they likely won't be in the starting XI tomorrow. Either Tomi or Kiwior at left back against their tricky wingers will be very helpful but I do worry about potentially starting Partey in such a big game when he's been out of action for so long and his form when back in action has been pretty poor.

samthegooner Tomi hasn’t played at length. He’s definitely not ready to start a game. It’s the same as ESR. A player who isn’t up to full fitness can’t start a big game. You just end up pre-planning a sub, which limits your degrees of freedom. Same with Partey. He’s unfit. If anything Kiwior is back in.

I would be legitimately shocked if Zinchenko starts. He hasn't been good all season, and Arteta's no dummy. It's one thing to reintegrate him into the squad for the run-in, he could be a useful game-changing substitute, but to play him in a game of this magnitude, when our strength has been the integrity of our defense? After starting Kiwior at City? That would be a baffling decision.

It's a tricky one. We did it in the CL run in 06. Flamini and Senderos played out of their skin throughout the knockout stages, contributing to the most miserly defence in CL history. Yet, both Cole and Campbell recovered and started the final.

Mikel is unlikely to rest/bech Saka but I wouldn't start him as he looks unfit to me and seems to be playing at 50-60%. Plus, I expect Jesus. to do a better defensive job on Davies.

Bayern will likely start with Dier-De Ligt who are both quite slow, Martinelli could really hurt them by swapping with Havertz at times.

Hope we get Tomi match fit for the 2nd leg because even Kiwior is not that great 1 v 1 (still better than Zinchenko though).

Mikel is unlikely to rest/bech Saka but I wouldn't start him as he looks unfit to me and seems to be playing at 50-60%.

Saka's been running on a broken leg and said as much after Brighton. He's been clutch under those conditions before, but if a week's rest could see him fit for the rest of the run-in it'd be preferable to always starting him.

Coman has been out for quite a bit with a knee injury, came back for a cameo against Dortmund and then didn't play their last game. Don't think he'll start against us

I’d be surprised if Zinchenko starts, it’s either Kiwior or Tomi.

As for Partey not being fit. He’s come on twice, started once and has been back in the match day squad for 5 weeks.

I don’t have a huge amount of confidence in either him or Jorgi starting every 3 days, so let’s just use both.

Stakes have been elevated to the maximum for Bayern and Kane in this match. They're fighting for their season and to continue a thirteen year streak of trophies, Kane's fighting not to be the butt of a million jokes. They'll have an intensity we'll have to snuff out.

Arteta might be motivated to use Zinchenko against them because he's been linked heavily with a move there ...

echo those that don't want zin starting this. if bayern are going to hurt us anywhere, it's from the wings, and zin has been dozy as hell positionally and posessionally

i reckon wilo and gabby will be relishing a chance to squash kane. with rice patrolling those pockets he drops into I can see him having a tough night ahead

Don't think we should start Tomi at all. He hasn't started any game in 2024 throwing him into a game like this won't end well
