Clrnc Considering the disposal he had at Sporting, if he can't bring United improvement over ETH they might as well close down the club.

This is what you said (and what a lot of people said) when ten Hag replaced Rangnick and they've been just as jokeworthy as ever. Even last season people were saying ten Hag's a good coach.

A good season in Portugal says nothing as to whether a manager can change the culture of a club as big as United. It's one of the reasons Arteta's been so impressive at Arsenal—the change has been holistic.

Asterix The whole thing about bringing in Hugo Viana to replace Txiki Begiristain was supposed to be about getting Amorim, yeah. Either that was never the plan or they're seething I would imagine.

Also why wouldn't you take the Man Utd job? You get paid heaps, and if you fail it's not really your fault. Maybe Amorim will be at Man Utd this season and next, and then go to City when they win promotion back from the Championship...

Claudius if you approach it from a system-first mindset, yeah, you're right. Some managers may approach the problem from a player-first mindset and find a way to make that group of players more productive than they are at current.

Make no mistake, I am not suggesting that they could be a championship quality side. Possibly top 4 at best. They are, however, significantly underperforming relative to the quality they have.

RocktheCasbah we finished 5th with 75 points that season, it might be the highest 5th position finish in the Premier League era. 1 point behind 4th placed Klopp's Liverpool and 3 behind City who finished 3rd. In most seasons Wenger qualifies for the CL yet again. Ten Haag's United has been abysmal.

Rohit right, but it was also the same season as losing by the same 3-1 scoreline to Chelsea, Liverpool and West Brom in consecutive Premier League away games and finishing that miserable run with a 3-0 shellacking at the hands of, of all people, Sam Allardyce's Crystal Palace.

Throw in the 2x 5-1 humiliations dished out by Bayern in that time and you can see we had become a deeply unserious football team.

That's why I found the FA Cup final so miraculous.

I'm not sure that matters if legally they cannot get him sooner. Since Sporting are a publicly listed club, there are regulations they have to go through, isnt there? Unless they do some hocus pocus magic. But he won't be in charge this weekend, thats for sure.

USArsenal If it's just about the employment contract I assume parties can just agree to waive the notice period, especially the employer.

Sounds like they'll have Amorim by the time they play us, not that that necessarily means an incredible "new manager bounce" etc.

Ten Hag has been disappointingly silent. I wonder if his compensation will include a gag order 😆
