Claudius He's great for business. The "liberal" press outlets feed his profile no less than the others, no matter the outrage. For one moment since Walz's nomination Trump's been the less interesting figure to the media, and it feels almost like being in the eye of the cyclone of the constant publicity he receives.
2024 US Election
It's so funny how he can't get over Biden dropping out. Can't say he's wrong in what he says though...
He seems tired. He has incredible willpower but it's been a pretty intense 10 years for him. We'll see if he gets some juice back in the fall. Hopefully the Dems can win, and win Congress, and we can put the MAGA era to bed.
he honestly blew it by getting into politics. he could have just kept growing his tv brand, started his own right wing entertainment media/news channel, roasted people and made jokes, and he'd have been hugely successful.
mdgoonah41 I think that was his initial grift in 2016 till he actually got elected

i can guarantee with 99% certainty that the media wont report on the contents and will shield trump from any damaging info here. when people ask if that is a double standard based on how they handled the clinton hack, they will say "theyve learned their lesson"
I don't understand.
Anyway, the non-conservative wing of the media is definitely not on Trump/JDV's side, and will do everything they can to tank their ticket.

TWEEDLEDUM: Tweedledee is a perverted and un-American left wing radical!
TWEEDLEDEE: Tweedledum is a threat to this great nation's democratic norms!
Edit: in before someone thoughtfully reminds me this election is putting forward a meaningful choice. Yes it is, and yes I support Harris, but one still might wish for an even more meaningful choice.
flobaba Have to say that at least by my observation (I only really read the "liberal" outlets to any extent), since the Walz pick there's an awful lot of pieces out there along the lines of "Suddenly Kamala Harris's campaign has the momentum of a runaway freight train—can you tell us how you managed it, Madame Vice President?"
You'd think it was self-sabotage.
The horror. THE HORROR.
I genuinely find it insane that people think this man is intelligent. It blows my mind.
Some ride the wave because they know it furthers their political goals but others actually think this man is a capable, coherent and thoughtful leader. How!? FUCKING HOW!?
TambourineMan Have you seen the pictures of Trump supporters wearing diapers, ear patches and t-shirts with texts like "My dictator!"? It's fucking cuckoo land over there.
TambourineMan i dont think any of the "serious" people on the right think hes smart. like, if you asked john roberts or the head of the heritage foundation if they think trump is smart and they tell the truth, they will say no. they also know that trump doesnt actually care about like 80% of the priorities on the right. trump wanted to be president in 2016 to further enrich himself and grow the value of his businesses. it backfired, and he got himself in a ton of legal trouble. he wants to be president now because it means he can make his criminal cases go away.
the right saw that they didnt really have a chance to win "the battle of ideas" on core issues beyond immigration. 70% of the country favors abortion rights, for example. but they support trump because they know trump is just a circus act, but that he has more appeal broadly than someone like mitt romney. poor working class people see a guy like romney drone on about corporate taxes and they zone out and disengage. those same people view trump as like a joe exotic guy who is entertaining, and they go and vote. the heritage foundation could not care less who the republican president is, they want to further cement the dominance of the right in the federal court system and the dismantling of the administrative state. they know trump wont get in the way of that, he'll let them do whatever they want, he'll be focused more on his own petty grudges and legal issues and making all that go away.
Spot on mdgoon
The end game for any intelligent Republican has been to use Trump to advance their causes - stacking the courts and dismantling federal agencies - and the disavow him. In five years you won’t hear, see, or know an “intelligent” Republican who will admit they supported Trump.
But until then, they recognize he gives them a chance via a populist vote. Who else draws for Republicans (or Dems)?
Both sides are pushing a geriatric set of representatives because everyone worth a damn is making loot somewhere else for far less attention and stress. Unless you’re looking to push a cause - like Obama for a black prez or Hilary for a female prez - I’m not sure being the president is actually a desirable position these days.
The Trump as a convenient vehicle for power theory works, but don’t think it’s been a big master plan. Trump took this party from traditional republicans, and they’ve had to adjust. They fought him initially but he beat them.
