Martinelli and Saka are also struggling because of a lack of support. White has been anonymous offensively this season and has barely got up to support Saka, leaving him isolated and responsible for taking on his man and create something from a standstill position. We aren't creating any overloads down the right, and I suspect it's because White's carrying an injury and is scaling back.
Similarly, there is no-one supporting Martinelli down the left like Xhaka did, who under and overlapped him, so both of our wingers are missing a crucial route to being effective and that's receiving the ball often enough behind the defence, and instead they're constantly gaining the ball with a defender, often two goal side of them.
Martinelli's final ball has been rubbish but he only picked up 6 assists last season. He's not a creative winger, yet this season he is constantly finding himself in positions where he needs to create. He's not getting the ball in behind the defence for him to actually run on to goal.
The opponents have also become smarter in how they defend both of them, so it's a perfect storm at the moment. A RB who can join the attack would do wonders for Saka, and a LCM who can combine with Martinelli would also benefit him. White may be playing at half capacity, because he's offering nothing in the attack at the moment. Havertz is not combining well enough with Martinelli and he has no passing range, so can't feed him either.
